I have a strange request.

I need to get to Cowes early Sunday morning (silly non sailing friends getting married on saturday) but have the classic "what do i do with my car?" problem.

Does anyone know of anywhere close to the redjet to park for free or nearly free where my car would have a better than even chance of still being there when I got back the following weekend?
Or is anyone sailing/moboing/ribbing across from Hamble early sunday morning and wouldn't mind a stow away for some petrol money?

Or can anyone think of another way of getting myself to the island for 9am on Sunday morning given that I have a 3 hour drive to even be in the Southampton area!

Might it be worth getting one of the car ferries - Portsmouth - Wotton Creek or Lymington - Yarmouth ... then you can leave your car on the island ...

Another outside shot.

Several of the sail lofts have RIBS, which flit between Hamble and Cowes during Cowes week at regular intervals (presumably ferrying knackered/repaired sails to and fro). Would it be worth giving a couple of them a bell to see if they'd give you a lift?

Possibly, but then got to worry about getting from Ryde over to Cowes, and need to be in Cowes ready to sail at about 9.

The Lymington ferry starts pretty early, and there's parking at the ferry terminal (expensive). You've then got the problem of getting from Yarmouth to Cowes by bus or taxi.

Alternatively there is a Lymington-Cowes ferry during CW. If it leaves from the Town Quay you could park in one of the marinas. Details here

taxi is only about 15 quid from Ryde to Cowes. It may save alot of stress - are you on the 109?

SB3 on Sunday, 105 for the rest of the week. Will look into ferries and trains for Portsmouth!

If there isn't a taxi there (or you could book one) there is a bus to Newport at 0700 (and half hourly after) which will connect with the 0730 to Cowes (and then quarter hourly) which will get you there for 0748.
