Anyone bought from European Online Chandlers

cher Monsieur Jimi

Eet is wiz gret pleasure we reciv your order for a 26 mtre motoryacht as in the premier picture for the website of us. Your choosing of the gold option for all the plumming shows the discrimination of our valueable clientele.

We note your wish to execute the deal in coins of the Kingdom Untied. Accept our congratulations, please, for the decision to issue the coinage in gold, and certified by the Bonk Of England.

We wish, however, that you clarify the drawbacks. Are they to be made in true veritable leopard skin, as the same for the hammock you request for the foredeck ? Pas de probleme, mon brave Capitaine Navigateur !

On zis occasion, we do not wish to entertain the exchange of your fine ship, so she is a souvenir of your mis-spent young times to be kept for the small family's enjoyment.

Like Tradewinds I have purchased from SVB and can recommend them. However I can't see why you would want to purchase an RT-650 for €369.00 from France when you only need pay £279.95 Inc VAT for the same radio from Cactus.

I nearly posted that then realised that the French one has the remote mike included (I think I'm right) which is the equivalent of the Cactus one at £369.95. http://www.cactusnav.com/rt650-with-wireless-remote-p-10053.html?cPath=116_28_30

Mon francais c'est tres mal! But I saw this and was tempted

does the panel see any drawbacks my tiny little eye cannie spot?

If everything goes well then you've saved a couple of quid, and most of the time when ordering from an online chandlers, things do go well don't they?

If things go a little pear shaped though - let's say the item is faulty or missing a fixing you'll have to return to base in France, and explain why.

Also - there are UK chandlers frequently mentioned on this forum that undercut everyone on price but do not deliver on their promises. Lets hope these lads are not a similar shower of b*astards or you will have to put up with being ignored in French..

..and if things do go Pete Tong and all else fails you'll be appealing under the French 'sale of goods' act..maintenent, comment ca dit en Francaise? Um.. J'aime beaucoup le pamplemouse!?

I dunno - I've just bought a dinghy, in person, for £30 more than I could have got it online (uk supplier) but I got to see the goods prior to purchase, and if there had been a problem I would have just popped back in and swapped it, rather than repacking and returning via courier then waiting for a refund or exchange (again by courier). A huge potential hassle considering the minor savings. Cross border there would need to be a considerable incentive to outweigh potential hassle..

yes. Your local chandlery will go bust. Then you will moan when you need a small tube of sikaflex and an 8x2 countersunk stainless screw.
My local chandlers, that time warp called Sharp and Enwright, refuse my orders for electronic kit as they don't specialise in it and can't get anywhere near the sheds on pricing.

I have used a German one to buy a few hundred quids worth of stuff.

Shipping was very reasonable €6.95.

So, not anything to do with your particular French outfit but my experience was very positive.

Bonne chance! à donf! etc etc etc

+1 for SVB. Problem is they send a doorstop of a catalogue which is great for looking at boaty kit pics, but it's all in Deutch und ich habe kein Deutch!! Makes an interesting doorstop though.

Then you need feel no guilt.
I go into mine, tell them what i can get it for and ask if they want to come close to the price. I dont expect parity but can't afford to get ripped off either.
Thus far, they have always matched the price.

Oh dear, I never realised chandleries were in fact charities and that I need to make occasional donations to them. Silly me, I had thought that they were businesses competing in the marketplace for my hard earned! Thank you for the clarification. And I don't believe in price matching, thats done by retailers who want to have their cake and eat it .. as well as steal business from businesses with the balls to be up front with low prices.
