Anyone been out on the river today

Takes a while of very cold temps for the cuts to freeze to any thickness.

Ours didn't freeze thickly last year until we had -6 / -7 for a few nights with no traffic. You might get a skin after the last few days , but nothing you couldn't break through easily i wouldn't have thought.

Thought it reopened before xmas. Will have to check now.

The official notice says 9th. January to 10th. February
SO that's why it was open at Christmas (fnar fnar)
With the current weather there could be further delays as some concreting would be needed.

My guess - I don't really have any idea of the details other than they had to put escape ladders below the existing steps.

BE CAREFUL! The longer, narrower lock cuts like Cookham, Boulters,Romney and Old Windsor are prone to freezing. You will have no idea how thick the ice may be in the least it can scrape that nice new coat of anti-fouling off and the worst !!!!!! shouldn't need explaining i've seen people panic about a small log hitting their boat but I would be more concerned about running against ice with no idea of its thickness.

Of course, Elf n Safety has banned Lockkeepers from using force to break the ice. They were able to use the long hitcher poles to smash the ice, but this has now been deemed an unsafe practice.

Why dont the EA give local punting clubs free winter licences that would save the Lockies a job:D

Nope, all went very smoothly. Dancing Foam off to Inverness on Monday!

It was weird launching into ice though, made some very peculiar sounds and you could see boats fifty feet away move after sitting perfectly still

SWMBO was out this morning at 07:45 coxing a Walbrook rowing eight from Trowlock Island. They had to break the ice to get the boat in.

They rowed from Trolock Island up to Stevens Ait and back.

Seriously mad....
