Anyone any observations on engineering capability at BYH?

Turning into Burnham Yach Harbour yesterday and we got a nois like soneone had tipped a bag of nails into the propulsion system... Got moored up, and isolated it down to the gearbox area, it's either the input bearing breaking up (noise occurs in neutral and gears) or the clutch replacement drive plate (Ford Lancing XLD 1.8). Not prepared to being it home to Mersea in light easterlies, hence the question in the title...

How good are the engineers at BYH?

Very sorry to hear this, Larry - I hope that it’s nothing too serious and is relatively easily fixed......

Ollie Mason may be prepared to come to Burnham from Mersea if you give him a call. I’ve known him go to St Katharine’s to fix a Mersea boat. His number is 07905 243414.

Well, discussions with people at Mersea, Gladys is being towed home by sea on Wednesday and then my trusted engineer can do the job quicker, easier and cheaper... Thanks for all the comments.

Hi Gladys,

I hope you're sorted by now. If not, my choice in Burnham would be Hardy Marine Engineering - their shop is on the small industrial estate by the station, just before you get to the Co-op walking up Foundry Lane from BYH. You should be awae that BYH levy a charge on contractors working on boats in their harbour, so it may be worth moving her to a Yacht Club pontoon for a visit from Hardys, with the appropriate club's permission, of course.

Thanks, she's now back at Mersea (towed yesterday) and her usual engineer has already dismantled the back end, and the drive plate is the culprit, but it's also chewed out the bell housing as well...

Fortunately it's a Lancing Marine Ford... and the bits are £400 +vat... Much less than I expected...
