Looking to complete a long overdue service of my in mast furling system. Online instructions seem to suggest that gearbox can be removed whilst mast remains stepped. Has anybody done this? Was it as straight forward as Seldens instructions?

Thanks

Yes, and it's straightforward. It's even possible to do it without removing the mainsail, although if you take the main off you can lubricate the top swivel too.
Cheers pvb. Sail is off, new one being made as old started to bunch up a lot.
Top swivel is down so happy with that bit, is there anything at top of mast I need to lubricate?
Did you need any replacement parts whilst gear was out?

I wouldn't worry too much about stuff at the top of the mast. I've never needed replacement parts, just cleaning and re-greasing.
