She's called 'Sameboat' and the owner is an unprincipled cad!

I was anchored in Falmouth on Friday night off the visitors' Yacht Harbour. During the night (0200) the wind picked up and 'Sameboat', an elderly looking trimaran dragged and fouled a small yacht astern. After a while he cleared that boat, apparently causing minimal damage, and came ahead at speed directly towardes me. Much shouting by the skipper of the other boat and me alerted him to the danger and he swung sharply to starboard but not soon enough to clear my Lodestar dinghy, which he left somewhat deflated with a two foot gash in one of the tubes.

We agreed to meet the next morning to exchange details (the condidtions realy weren't suitable for a discussion at the time). Disappointingly he never reappeared and has not been seen since - even by the Harbour Authorities to whom he owes at least one night's fees.

If anyone has any information about the boat or the toe-rag who owns her, could they let me know.

Now come on James.......

Nobody says "cad" anymore..........Yon man is an [word removed]! tell it like it is. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Nice one!......... James, I wonder if a call to Penzance harbour master might be useful? unless of course they have headed across the pond by now?

The two men are currently performing in a touring production of Black Men Can't Swim, a play about a white yachtsman who collides with an African migrant travelling in a rickety home-made vessel.

Is yours the rickety home-made vessel? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Ow! The article says: "The aim of the voyage is to bring about reconciliation and an awareness of the plight of today's economic migrants". Good cause, but how does them having a holiday raise awareness? I can't seem to get it. Surely they'll enjoy sailing the atlantic circuit on a yacht. I would.

Anni, that's amazing. Yes, it's the same boat and the man I'm looking for must be Martin Hubbard. Ashburton is not far from me but unfortunately the telephone number is ex-directory. I suspect the boat may be bassedin Plymouth so I may bump into her - if you see what I mean.

The irony is not lost that: 'The two men are currently performing in a touring production of Black Men Can't Swim, a play about a white yachtsman who collides with an African migrant travelling in a rickety home-made vessel. '

Unbelievable that this is funded by the lottery. Having slogged for 6 years to help get a charity off the ground that actually has a measurable nett effect, with no help forthcoming from the lottery, I'm lost for words that an atlantic circuit cruise attracts aid. I'm in bits.

Hey! Guys!

Aren't forums and websites marvelous. Hubbard now tracked down and message left on answerphone. If I get no reply inside 48 hours I'll be knocking on his front door with a couple of heavies of my acquaintance.

Even so, as has been said, they may be half way to Spain by now. When the incident occured there appeared to be only one person on board which might be a good sign that the boat is still around.

Also, from one of the pictures on his website, the boat was at the Multihull Centre, Millbrook at one time so I will go down there and talk to Pip and Debbie Patterson to see if they know anything: the net is closing in /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Thanks guys for a great result. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Is it feasible (or economic) to obtain some kind of restraining order which could be distributed to habour masters? ie block them in port until they have coughed up.

John

I can understand how you must feel. I have been disgusted at some of the projects they support and bitterly dissapointed when they have not helped worthy causes.

I voted with my feet and I do not support the National Lottery at all. Prefer to put money into collection boxes when I see something worth supporting..
