...or ex-owners who can help with fitment of a spinaker pole topping lift (pole uphaul). My boat doesn't have a dedicated spi pole lift as the boat was designed to use the spare spi halyard for the task. From what I've read it is a common modification to add, presumably, a sheave box below the genoa halyard entry. Would like to know where to fit it, and part number/description of the sheave box itself, and any other hints or tips.

pole up

No comment on that boat, a mistake a lot of people make when adding a pole uphaul (including the spar makers) is it have it exit too low down the mast. The higher the pole uphaul on the mast, the better angle of pull you get to lift the pole. Our pole uphaul is 6mm spectra (38ft boat, 130sq m kites), which exits just below the forestay sheave box from a harken 6mm sheave. Also the small rope means a smaller hole for the sheave. This also means that you can tack through with the pole uphaul still attached to the pole end and taught. Really helps when the kite comes down quickly and you have to tack in short order...

I have a X-302 and fitted my own pole uphaul. I just cut a slot in the from of the mast between the jib halyard exit and the top spreader, fitted a sheve and ran a dyneema 8mm line inside the mast, exiting vis another slot at the side of the mast, then down to the mast gare rinf and through a turning block, deck organisers and then clutch. make sure the exit slot is staggared like the other halyards. Down haul I have a 2:1 running down either side to the cockpit.

On another point for your mast, Check for corrision under the stainless fittings. I have had to replace the botton 4m section on my mast, all due to the lack of a electric barrier between the ss kicker take off bracket and the mast. (V expensive, £4k)

If you would like a chat send a message, or if near Gosport Premier look at my boat on P2

Cheers

Thanks for the advice, I'll check underneath the stainless fittings. Any obstructions in feeding the new line down the mast?

Not a X yacht -but my spi pole lift exits just under the jib. I have it doubled up as a man overboard hoist with an extra large hook permanently fitted, plus I have 10mm diam line so it is strong enough. It is long enough to reach the waterline at the stern & feeds to a cockpit winch so someone can be hooked on & hoisted up without bothering with boom lifts etc

That's worrying!
You'd think you could get a new mast for £4k, not just 4 m of it.

Feed a new line down the mast can be tricky. the best method I have found is to hook out an existing halyard through your new exit box up the top of the mast, tie a mouse line on and then pull the existing halyard down the mast, then hook out the mouse line and pull through the new lower exit hole. pull the mouse line up and down to ensure it is not twisted around any of the existing halyards.

(putting the lower exit hole in the mast above the other halyard lower exit holes makes this process easier. Also some boats have an extra cleat on the mast so the bow man can hoist the pole up and cleat off, and not wait for the pit crew to cleat off for him)
