I have these ventilation lids all over the boat. I find them to be too feather light to move. Too light for my liking. If I throw a glove or something next to one I will accidentaly close it. I have tried spraying tar into the mechanism, but I guess it wasnt thick enough too make much of a impact
You know they're outlets for a warm air heater, right? More of an issue if they won't stay shut when you don't want warm air from a particular outlet or outlets...
Generally hot air ducts are mounted on a vertical surface, not through a floor. So, this is the primary problem for them to be easiliy closed. THe solution would be to make a small wedge or a wire support to fix between a pair of the blades and they will then stay open.
