Any Transas / Tsunamis99 users here?

I know it is a bit of a long shot but here goes...

With Tsunamis99 in either 'zoom' or 'review' mode, zooming in or out with the '+' or '-' key causes a 'position dropped' message at the top of the screen.

Correcting it is easily done (by clicking on the message) but I would rather solve the problem at source than have to regularly correct it.

It only happens when 'free mouse cursor' is enabled in setup but working without free mouse cursor is laborious.

Anyone else had (and solved) this problem, please?

A 'virtual' pint is the reward - or a real pint if you can collect it in Durham or Almerimar.

Hmmmmm.

I was a user for quite some time and have not encountered this...but did frequently have T99 drop GPS signal for no real reason.

Upgraded to Navigator and much better (same noddy UI though and really memory hungry with the weather server).

Not sure I can help hugely - only to say I didn't have the same issue.

I have now dropped Transas and moved to RayMarine fixed installation with a C80...much happier with that.

Have you tried Transas support...they respond quickly though don't have too many answers unfortunately.

One thought - have you tried with a different keyboard??? Or maybe a USB keyboard instead of PS2, or vice versa? Might be tha your keyboard signal is conflicting with however you are bringing in the GPS signal??????? Long shot perhaps!

Good thinking ...
I have tried the software on three different computers; an old laptop (Win98), a desktop (XP Pro) and a new laptop (Vista), all with the same problem.

I suspect it may be something to do with the port settings or the refresh rates - but that is just guesswork. It could even be a compatibility problem with the GPS mouse.

In other words, I haven't really got a clue so any further suggestions are most welcome.

Yep i got the same prob, but i dont! think that it is a prob. I still think its pretty good as rocks dont usually move, although i do use a chart plotter as well as...........Have fun... /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

My T99 setup remains solid (touch wood ...), currently limping along on a bottom-of-the-range Dell laptop under WIN95b with GPS data via a standard COM port from either a Lowrance/Eagle or a Garmin 45 handheld - and it doesn't get much more basic than that !

Never seen a 'position dropped' flag during chart zoom - except when selecting an area with the mouse cursor should that area no longer display the boat's position on the screen - which I'd say is an intentional use of the flag.
In that situation the current GPS position is still being shown as 'valid' (i.e. numerals displayed in Black with no 'Time Failure' or 'Unreliable Primary Position' flag), as valid GPS data is still being received, but the boat's position is no longer visible on the zoomed screen - so it's rather more of a 'Position not currently being Displayed' situation, than 'Position Dropped' - but there you go ....

Of course that wouldn't be the case when using +/- keys, as the boat's position should always be visible on the screen - so don't know what to suggest. But - if the GPS Lat/Long data is still being displayed as valid, then it ain't a dropped GPS signal.

One tiny quirk I've found is that sometimes when zooming with the mouse, the zoom area can only be defined from bottom-right upwards, rather than top-left downwards - but this may be a mouse or screen driver glitch.
Other than that, the program appears to run fine.

You are a gentleman and a scholar. You are quite right, of course. I thought I was losing the GPS position (position dropped certainly sounds like it) when in fact I was just losing sight of the vessel.

So I have spent 5 weeks trying to cure a problem that doesn't exist. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Collect your virtual pint, my man.

Mmmm - but there might just be a second pint in this thread ...

Ok - so it's not a dropped-GPS signal, but you're still getting a flag when it's not justified.

4 users. 2 with an identical problem, 2 without.
So what's the common denominator ?

Ok - let's eliminate the program.
Mine (displaying no problem) is version 3.02.0, build 676, 23 Nov 1999

Then - let's look at the systems being used - bearing in mind that this program was written for WIN9x machines when processor speeds were around 500 Mhz max., with the charts being pulled off a relatively slow CDROM.

So - what speeds are the 'problem' machines using ? And where are the charts being held ?

I'm just wondering if the errant flag problem could be to do with the speed of the chart update during zoom (a serious case of clutching at straws ... !!) where *maybe* the CPU is doing it's calculations at the speed of light and is beating the chart update, so the prog sees and flags-up a 'Position Dropped' (which is really a "Position Not Displayed") error ??

Might be worth keeping the charts on the hard drive (if not already doing so) and slowing-down the processor as a test - or pick up a low end Pentium box at a boot sale for a couple of quid to test this theory.

Otherwise - dunno.
