An ex-patrol steel hull/aluminium superstructure boat with engines that will be replaced as soon as it gets over to the UK.
Too small to tow, too large to haul, too unpredictable to drive across.
Any ideas/suggestions would be gratefully received.

Strikes me this boat is big enough to have a forum outing on it. Why don't all volunteers go over to Holland and bring it back? Where is the final destination? What speed will it cruise at? I think we need more details please. Paul

Cut and shut. Its steel so cut it into manageable chunks, transport it by road and weld it back together in the UK?

The thing to do, is about ten of us waltz over there, chuck a rope over it each and just drag the bugger back. Will it do 20 knots?? Well I suppose it will just bloody well have to do!!

A self built 100'er was taken from scotland to southcoast with a couple of big outboards on a scaffolding platform on the back. No reason why you cannot do similar?

I'd even come and help if you wanted company on the trip

Thank you, guys for all the suggestions - whether serious or in jest.
The boat is seaworthy enough for an experienced person to drive it.

Problem is: I am in a hurry and know no experienced engine man. I also don't want to pay over the top (or I'd be buying a brand new yacht).

I am told it is too small to tow, because tugs are only used for very large vessels ( well, much larger than 60 tons).

A party of volunteers sounds great! I wish...

Not sure what the outboards and scaffolding scenario is exactly - could you provide a more elaborate explanation, please?

Again, I am very grateful for all ideas.

Well you just need a smaller tug, fishing boat, trawler or what ever.. Sounds like your engines work a bit, so get them codged up a bit by the local mechanic, then arrange for some fishy type to shepard you across on a good day. Think 60 tons is a bit much for most of us!!

Purely out of interest, wonder if you have any pictures. My brother was recently involved with bringing back some sort of patrol boat from that neck of the woods.Boat now moored in the Medway.Looks like a long thin airsea rescue type thing.Very curvey alloy superstructure and was painted sort of matt grey and it did arrive here under its own steam last summer. If the boat is a runner,it would be possible to get a local barge crew from this end to bring her home.

It would be much cheaper to hire a professional delivery skipper to bring the boat back rather than try and tow it...provided the engine (s??) are up to the job.

Alternatively you could see whether you can get enough volunteers to do the trip with you.
We would need to know
Where is boat
Where going to
When did boat last move
How good are the engines
General sea-worthiness of boat
Would you skipper it.
What timescale are you working to when would you want to do it?

Cheapest way to get a crew out there is either as foot passengers or in a minibus.

If you have any real interest in exploring this option you need to answer the above before the post rolls off the page.
