Hi,

A colleague has been invited on a sea angling trip next weekend, in an uncomfortable but doubtless seaworthy boat. Dory type hull, with cuddy and damn great outboard.

I'd like to put togther some safety gear for him to take with him. Partly in fun, he likes the idea of turning up as if he expects the worst. Of course I don't want to lend him anything actually unsafe. I'm also limited by what I have available here, not aboard the boat.

So far, I have planned ..
Lifejacket (plus rearm kit if it's not on the boat)
Charts
RNLI Safety booklets
Hand foghorn if I can find it
Mayday crib sheet
Table of "life saving signals"

Any other suggestions?

Did you want recommendations for safty equipment that should be stored on the boat, or recommendations for a personal safety kit for him to carry onboard?

What about a torch for attracting attention?

I just quickly went through my grab bag, I'm sure there are some other bits and bobs in there, in fact I have just found the night vision goggles, and I am not joking /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Lifejacket, suntan oil and his fishing gear.
If the boat doesn't have the basic safety and navigation gear on board it's unlikely the skipper would know what to do with it and your friend needs to decide whether to go in the boat or not.

As someone once said, "If you carry enough spares to cover all eventualities then don't forget the hull." So you might as well tow another 'spare' boat behind you; just in case, of course.

Powerskipper's bang on here, but he might look iffy in the flairs though. I've still got a pair from the 70's if you need to borrow some, might have some platform shoes too, green, I think...

Yep, I wear them over my 'Speedo's' /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
