Monohull sloop
Anysize from 28-42ft
2 adults - one yachtmaster, one day skipper
Med somewhere - spain, france, croatia, greece, turkey
From 30 July-6 August

ANY PERSONAL RECOMMENDATIONS PLEASE?

I presume it has to be that week ? I have a friend who charters out his Beneteau 381 in the Ionian at very reasonable rates, but I know someone's already taken her for the whole of August
 
I have ben with Sailing Hols on flotilla, brilliant, magical even. Last year I bare boat chartered with them and then found out that actually I was hiring a boat off Kiriacoulis. After the "holiday" I swore I will never ever bareboat charter with Kiriacoulis again.
 
To choose a locaton, use my web site, which compares the characteristics of various cruise areas in Europe. Places which will be still easy to get flight to in high season are:

[*]Athens - Saronic/Cyclades
[*]Kos -Dodecanese [/list]
Bodrum, Marmaris and Gocek, in Turkey, are also possible locations not covered by my web site.

Once you've chosen your area, find out who charters locally. Broadly, tour operators (Fotilla companies!) are very reliable and have excellent support. Smaller companies will have lesser resources if boat damage occurs (perhaps, before you arrive). Apart from these factors, there's little to choose in this very competitive industry.

We went bareboat with Sailing Holidays last year - but booked through their flotilla programme. As we had told them ahead of time we weren't staying with the fleet we got a boat we knew (i.e. one of theirs, always brilliantly maintained) and the support of their shore bases when we needed it (we did - broken side gate in the guardrails). Otherwise the 3 weeks were ours to do as we pleased - couldn't have been happier.
 
sailing in Croatia is unforgettable vacation...such clean sea and thousands of Islands can not be found anywhere. I have been sailing almost everywhere in Mediteranan and these are my immpressions. The only "failure" is deficiency of mooring places in official Marinas but on the other side you will find so many lonely bays to overnight! Try it and you wan´t forget it...Last summer I arranged my sailing with one small charter company Pulena Yacht Charter from Split and everything was functioning perfect. Yachts are in great condition and the service is the BEST. Year before we started from Biograd and was also nice but it seems to me that Split region is perfect for planning your sailing itinerary!

Thanks for your posting, I assume your friends Beneteau is still booked for August? The earliest I could go is 29th July through to 5th August. Any chance of a booking with your friend?

Sorry , 29th July is when the August booking starts. I'll let you know if I hear he's cancelled, but it's his third year running of chartering the boat, so I think that's pretty unlikely.

We chartered a lovely Bav 43 from Nisos in the Ionian a couple of years ago. The boat was in excellent condition, the support from Nisos was exemplary and we had a wonderful time.

Thoroughly recommend Nisos, we will use them again.
 
The boat was not up to standard, scruffy, things broken, a laissez faire attutude by the "support" staff. Had to return to base to have it lifted out, they wouldnt come to Monganissi to fix, we lost two days of hols. Had a substantial refund. I had to be really abrasive to get it all sorted.
