I would guess this is probably a good time of year to start getting quotes for a cockpit tent, for our Westerly Falcon.

We'll need a full set up, including frame.

She's based in Burnham.

Any suggestions, please, on good people to talk to?

Thanks.

I had mine made by Jeckells who came and discussed my requirements rather than just offer one from a catalogue. They devised a frame that doesn't have to be taken down each time. It's been un-obtrusively lying round the transom for 8 years. This is a full standing headroom aft cockpit.

Friends have theirs (for a centre cokpit) made by Mick Wilkinson (who now operates from his home in Station Road, Burnham) are are happy with it. 07748 877526.

I have used N & J Mussett of E Mersea for odd repair jobs and a couple of neighbours have had covers made recently. They are nice people to deal with and my neighbours are pleased with the results.

I asked Musset for a quote (being Mersea based) and they didn't even bother... My business isn't going their way...

That's odd. Both my neighbours had the same experience with another supplier, whose name I didn't catch but ended up with Mussett, one in the last couple of months.

Our first boat had one made by Jeckyls and our Moody has an excellent cockpit tent from Dolphin Sails. We have always dealt with Paul Gray who has been brilliant throughout.

More details below:

Paul Gray and the team at Dolphin did a very complicated, two piece, cockpit tent for our boat, which is a pilothouse ketch with all the related problems of rigging etc being in the way, and it is superb.

Bailey and Stone, they go most places and work REALLY is second to none. Had the aft cover on my Fairline done a little while ago now and it is really brilliant.

Too early to say a thing about the work yet but communication from the outset has been good, so far so good.. They have just been down to pattern our Broom.

Canopy fitted today looks great but a couple of the fastenings need adjusting.

I had asked Bailey & Stone before fitting the new canopy could the do anything with our current one to refurb as a winter canopy. They said no problem we will do that free of charge. So they are refurbish the existing canopy and will revisit next week take away the new one for adjustment fit the refurb and come back in spring and refit the new one.

I would say that was pretty darn good customer service considering they are in Greay Yarmouth and our ship is in Shotley.
