Any recommendations for canvas work in N. Wales?

The stitching on our spray hood has given up the ghost and one of the windows cracked when I took it off!

I'm happy to make dodgers, etc on our domestic sewing machine, but the multiple thicknesses on the spray hood would be beyond it.

Any suggestions as to who in/around North Wales might be able to re-stitch it and fit a new window and approx. cost?

Any idea how much a new one would cost?

Thanks,

Andy

I had my cockpit over made by Roger of Mouse Sails Holyhead, it wasn't that cheap as it was effectively 2x sprayhoods with a zip-out centre (fitted around a mizzen mast) so was bespoke. But he did a good job & did it on time including fitting.

I asked 6 local sailmakers to quote, 2 did but the other guy (Stephen from PD) altho £200 cheaper with the quote he wouldn't make the cover I asked for!! Nobody else even replied to my e-mails & phone calls. Most of them will probably quote a reasonable price for repair.

If you have the frame, plus an old one as a pattern it shouldn't be over £500, The guy in Cheshire (begins with an M? & used to be at all the jumbles) makes them to a standard pattern to fit yourself for about 1/2 the price.

Theres a liveaboard at Liverpool marina who does canvas work for a good price. Made a new spray hood for my boat for under £400, and then re-stitched the zip on my sail cover for free.
First name is John, lives on a Dutch barge parked up by the restaurant.

I've had sails, sprayhood and cockpit tent made by Roger at Mouse. No complains other than you need to be either very pushy or very patient.

I've also used the Boat Jumble chappie to make sail stack bag. Much cheaper than most. I called at his house to collect, somewhere west of J15-16 M6, iirc. Name was something like Martec but can't find him on google.

Thanks very much - I'd heard mixed reports about Mouse / Point North (service, rather than quality), but the others are new to me.

I've had good service from THESE based in Pwllheli

Uhmm, they had my mainsail for 10 days to put in a deep reef. When I rigged the sail, the leech block had been stiched on upside down. Give them credit, they had it taken away and returned to the boat within 4 hours.
I deducted £40 from the invoice as they cost me an out of hours lock in at Liverpool. The work quality was good, but they initially said 5 days for the work, ended up as 10, and then managed to redo 70% of the work in 4 hours

Andy the cheapest I've seen with quality work is Aquashak in Carrickfergus. Give them a call and see what they say, I'd be astounded if anyone else in the UK is cheaper.
You would have to post it to them though.

This may have been the guy Terry Cross.

I can recommend the Boatshed in Y Felinheli too. Excellent for both repairs and new canvas work and sails. Their narrow entrance is off the main road between two end terrace houses; turn when you see the imitation well in one of the front gardens.
