ANY REASONABLE SKIPPER

Quite frankly I'm getting really BORED with this yottie/powerboat agro on this forum. Any reasonable skipper should be aware of any problems his vessel creates, whether that be from wakes/speed/handling or what-ever. Lets give it a rest for a while and if necessary try to educate those that we believe are doing wrong. Lets get back to the really important things like are the RYA worth the money, is Seacheck worthwhile, how much diesel is needed to go from A to B, are pot lines a danger to man and boat but for Gods sake lets leave the raggies/powerboaters alone for a week or so?

Agree completely, I'm absolutely sick of the subject with the same things being constantly reiterated over & over & over & over & over again.

I have never understood the prejudice some yachtsman have for power boats. Whether we use power or a combination of sail and power or even, for the zealots, just sail we all have to deal with same elements of wind and tide when we go to sea. We probably have more in common than we think.

Most keen seagoers will have had a go at both and enjoy the experience. Sadly there are few who are really enthusiastic sea going people, so the arguments continue.

Couldn't agree more. I wanted Kim to put a stop to it days ago.

Personally I think it is purely a Solent thing, and more to do with the people who sail there than a power v sail issue.

Onlly ever had one problem with a power boat in almost 20 years of non Solent sailing.

I think if I had to sail there I would take up golf.

I agree lets stop this or employ sea police to check the tesco car park situation that is now developing with marinas being placed every 5 miles or so , the anoracks are coming!!

I supect there may be overtones of that other chestnut, wether to test and licence before being allowed on the sea. As far as I can see, most of the sinners where I sail (Exe) are those who trail their Ribs, powerboats, PWCs etc on to the beach behind 4x4s and launch. Last night I was stopped by an individaul who said thet he had just bought a boat and did I know anywhere where he could launch it? Behind him was the regulation 4x4 with about 22 foot of brand new wash production. He readily admitted that he had not been at sea before and was "just a beginner".

As those who go to sea in boats with masts probably need more education before setting off than those without, they have probaly had more chance to pick up the basics of manners and seamanship - not trying to score points but just making an observation.

Are you all asking for a maritime driving permit?

Re: Golf?

I believe it was Rudyard Kipling who called golf "hockey at the halt". I was once told that it is a game for old gentlemen to chase after a little white ball when they are too old to chase after anything else.
Ah, well, I think I will still go to sea for relaxation even if it is getting a bit crowded.
