Hi there

I have recently achieved the dubious status of becoming an RYA Shorebased instructor, this will allow me teach the shorebased subjects like Dayskipper/yachtmaster etc, but I have never meen on a yacht with sails! /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

But as I will teach raggies and stinkpots, I thought it was about time I got aboard a yacht and got some experience of under sail.

So if anyone wants an experienced mobo skipper and can teach me what happens when I pull on the ropes, drop me a line.

I live in Southampton but can travel a reasonable distance to come aboard, I am also available weekdays as well as weekends.

Thanks

Jim

do not take this personally but unless you are exclusively teaching powerboat how can anyone be allowed to teach a subject when they have no experience of 50% the subject.
It makes the qualification to be allowed to teach extremely suspect

he's teaching shorebased not practical. That's the same no matter what type of boat you are in, and to be honest, makes a change from all the teachers who are only raggie, and have never been on a powerboat in their lives, but make the lessons seem as though only raggies should be allowed on the water, as has been commented on the forums many times.

Sure we can sort something out next week. I will be away from tomorrow until Sunday night, and perhaps we can discuss it then (Boat is in Gosport)

Hi as Brendan stated would only involve teaching the theory to both raggies and stink pots, the qualifications I am going for at the moment will not allow me to do any practicle instruction on a raggie boat. I am looking to broaden my experience and see what the other half get up to /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Thanks for the kind offer Mark, a raggie multihull would be 2 firsts! I am out sitting yet more exams monday to wednesday next week but free after that.

And thanks to Brendan for the kind words, I think instructors should get as much experience as they can on all sorts of boats. If nothing else but to get an appreciation for what they have to deal with and perhaps why the do some of the things that to the uninitiated seem very odd.

You could also list on the Database in the Crewing url at my signature. As long as you are careful not to start "recruiting" commercial on there - fine. You may get some offers of boats etc.

There is an opportunity maybe if you fancy a Centaur raggie ... it's on the list and would mean getting involved in a Beach Party ........... May 27 Bank Holiday w/end ???

Interested ?

Already registered on the database /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I'll have a look at the Centaur raggie ..............

hmmm whassat I wonder???

I'll have to go investigate no, curiosity and all that.

Thanks

Not exactly wot you have ... I agree .... but one of the most successful small boat runs ever ... hit water providing caravans on the water in the 70's etc. and it would be safe to say that most if not near all are still doing it well.

Just had my 1st sail on a yacht today, had a great time and want to do more.

So if you are a raggie and want a novice sailor let me know

I haven't defected to the other side though

Try the other side if you haven't. I thoroughly recomend it

ps I started this post as Studgies but I thought it was about time I had my own name in here and leave Simon alone

I have been abandoned /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Now I have no one to blame when my posts go all wrong and my trping is crap......hmm, I'll blame powerskipper in future I think!
