I am in Guatemala, Central America so propane expertise is scarce here, especially in English so help!.

I am fitting a new Plastimo Pacific 4500 cooker and needed a new coupling to fit into my propane supply which I have found here with no problem!

I asked the guys in the hose shop to replace my existing orange rubber, flexible propane hose (as fitted by a Corgi man in 2004) with a new hose. The hose the Guatemalan pipe people here have fitted is labelled “NORFLEX 70031 Fuel line hose to SAE 30R6”.

I have had a hunt on the net but have been unable to find NORFLEX pipe, I did find SAE 30R6 which is a fuel line standard. I have not commissioned the cooker yet so the questions are

Will this pipe be OK or should I change it for something better/safer?

If it should be changed what specification pipe should I be using?”

Thanks

Where's the hose?

Straight from the cylinder (to a bulkhead mounted regulator) or coming out of a cylinder mounted regulator to the cooker?

That's an inportant question. If straight from a propane cylinder, then it will be a VERY high pressure an needs to be a specific high pressure LPH hose and fittings.

And the Norflex site appears to be here: http://www.norflexinc.com/

I did find this site but is seems very short in information about the products it sells

Thre is quite a lot of information to trawl through in the following but it does include specifications for gas hose.

Thanks for this, good information but not sure they use BS in Guatemala

Where's the hose?

Straight from the cylinder (to a bulkhead mounted regulator) or coming out of a cylinder mounted regulator to the cooker?

That's an important question. If straight from a propane cylinder, then it will be a VERY high pressure an needs to be a specific high pressure LPH hose and fittings.

Good point. The set up is as follows

The cooker has an 8mm pipe on the back which is connected via a coupler (similar to a WADE 1045) to a very short piece of copper pipe which has what looks like a connector nut soldered onto the copper pipe.

This fitting is connected to a fitting that has been attached/crimped to about 2 ½ feet of the new flexible pipe.

See thumb nail of new flexible pipe below.

The other end of the flexible pipe is connected the same way to another coupler which is connected to the copper gas pipe which runs through 2 gas manual shut off valves to the gas locker, then a very short piece of flexible orange gas pipe runs from the copper pipe to the cylinder mounted regulator on the propane bottle.

So bottom line is that the new flexible pipe is connected on the low pressure side if I have understood it correctly

Hope this makes sense

Probably not really geared towards procuring the necessary parts in Guatemala though, eh? :)

Pete

Just trying to be helpful but you may well prove to be correct.
European standards are used in some far off places - perhaps not in Guatemala ?
