Any other Macwesters 30 and 32 sloops anywhere in the UK?

The majority of Macwester Wights (30 and 32) were ketch or yawl rigged. Only Twelve (eight 30ft and four 32ft) were build as sloops.

Apart from my own, which is a sloop, I have not heard or seen any other sloops 30 or 32ft (even the Macwester owners association are not aware of any others anywhere; there are many 26, 27, and 28ft sloops).

Where are the rest of 30 and 32 sloops? has anyone seen one out there? Surely, mine is not the only one surviving in the UK.

I had a 30ft, from 2000 to 2007, kept on the Deben (East coast above Felixstowe). There was also another one at Walton on the Naze (might have been a 32ft)and there is another 30ft at Russel Hunt Boatyard just above Gunthorpe lock on the river Trent being restored very slowly!!

I sold mine and took it to Gallions Point Marina just above the Thames Barrier but the buyer intended to live on here whilst he worked on contract in London and then move her back to Hartlepool where he lived. She was not in Gallion Point last year.

There's a Malin sloop called "Pretty Flamingo" which until recently was at Wells next the sea. No idea where she is now as she's changed hands twice over the last two years.

Haven't seen another 30ft plus Macwester with the same combination as yours though ...sloop & aft cockpit. I could easily believe that your example is unique.

Thanks everyone for the replies. It is good to know that there are still a few sloops about.

Yodave; It appears that the Macwester yard, made one or two slightly different to the rest; although they made 12 sloops with numbers T1, T2,...T12; mine is the T14 !!.

Captain Fantastic; what are your thoughts on the above? A couple of years ago I thought it was a 30 sloop with an aft cockpit ...but on reflection it looks more like a 28. As an owner of a 30 sloop I think you'd be much better placed to identify it.

It is the same as the 28 but it measures 31 without the bow anchor roller; the extra space is inside the cabin; which is good. It has two portholes either side in addition to the rectangular windows, which is different to the 28's. Also, the engine is the Volvo MD11C instead of the MD11B, but perhaps it was changed some time ago. We had this boat since 2007 and we had a lot of fun with it sailing it in West Wales for a few years and in the Solent for the past three years; yesterday in the Isle of Wight. Not as fast as my previous Bruce Roberts, but the Macwester is easy and no fuss sailing. I am sure you are enjoying your Malin too.

Captain Fantastic: Yeah, I reckoned that (with hindsight) I was wrong to think it was a Macwester 30 back in 2011. It has the look of a 26 / 28 (slightly concave deck) ...and doesn't look like a 30 (which has a chunkier convex look). That was the only possible 30 sloop with an aft cockpit that I could think of, so yet again it seems perfectly conceivable that yours is unique.

Oh, and yes Malin ownership is fab (thanks). Happy sailing!

You have a great photo collection. Looking at the Atlanta photos on your link, the boat in question has same sliding hatch configuration in relation to the rest of the coachroof, as Sigolere P (looking from side), Quinzia and Redemption Song all of which are Atlantas 28. The windows are different, however, owners changed windows sometimes as with Redemption Song (all round portholes).

It is difficult to say for sure, but if I had to put money, I would say it was a later year (later year because of the chainplates located inboard, instead on the outside like mine) Atlanta 28.

Today I was in Chichester by Langstone; there were two nice Macwesters Wight II on their moorings. I hope people will carry on sending you their Macwester Yacht photos.

Agreed... I think this is most likely down to camera angles. If you look at the third shot down on this link http://macwester.wordpress.com/macwester-28-atlanta-28/ and then compare it with the fifth shot down (of the very same boat) then it seems to me camera angles offers an explanation.

No 100% guarantee, but I'd join you in that wager. Thanks for your kind words and encouragement re my blog. Hope you're making the best of the sunshine down your way!

Hi Captain Fantastic! I own Oyster River a 32ft Macwester Wight mk2 Sloop 1972 ,she's moored in the River Frome near Wareham,I think she has been here most of her life, but the last owners sailed her to Greece and back. I've owned her for 7 years and love her to bits!I often sail her to the Solent and Newport in the summer.Good to know you have a similar boat!
