Congratulations! Good answer, that is one blooming customer you will not have to bother with in the future.

Make sure you do a search on the Classic boat forum to see yourself in print.

Happy Christmas!

First you did not specify a replacement cable then you get shirty about a reply that quotes you for " a replacement".
They laugh off your huffiness in an appropriate manner and you then whinge.
You didn't get the result you wanted;well, it happens. Try someone else.
I think the foolish one here is perhaps you.
Cheers,
Chris
P.S. I have nothing to do with the company by the way.

I did actually ask for a replacement! if you think £80.00 is a fair and reasonable price for 7 yards of cable and a unit on the end of it, go for it.

Personally I think it is extortionate. As you say it is up to choice and I see no reason why people should not be made aware of the pricing policy of this company.

Good luck and thanks for your opinion

Sorry I thought you posted that you bought a unit on ebay for GBP80.00.
Seems to be the same price to me or am I missing something?
Cheers,
Chris

I think the warning might be to avoid doing business with you if this is your attitude. You omit to say that this piece of equipment is years out of date, the original manufacturer no longer exists and the price asked probably reflects quite accurately the cost of making the tiny quantities that might be demanded.

I suggest you compare the total cost of your replacement to make your existing unit functional with buying a new instrument that does the same job before you complain in public.

Sadly if we're talking about the transducer's with the little wheel to measure water speed etc then i'm not surprised with the price.

I've a now out of manufacturer Navman Fishfinder which I tried to get a replacement transducer for (with the wheel for water speed) and my local chandlery got the price of around £80.
They quite rightly pointed out it would be as expensive as buying a whole new Fishfinder which being 8 years newer would be of a higher spec anyway.

So yes the price is shockingly expensive for just the transducer/ cable but it's not the suppliers fault.

So you got a complete one off Ebay for the same price as the quoted cost of the obsolete spare. Good for you. My sons gearbox packed up - garage quoted £850 for repairs. So he went out and bought another car for £650.

The only unusual thing about this is getting anything cheap off Ebay!

Yes, I've used Tinley Electronics for my obsolete B&G instruments. Always charming and helpful. Nice to see their sense of humour in this exchange. God knows how they put up with some of their potential customers - expecting new, guaranteed parts for less than a second-hand item from an ebay vendor. Presumably some people don't understand that buying up stocks of obsolete parts and storing them requires a very large capital investment and a high profit margin to stay in business.

Thank you

Thank you to our supporters who realise that this was intended as a humorous tongue in cheek comment!

None of us here have boats. (And if I could afford one it would have sails).

My car is a 5 year old mediocre family saloon.

My wife works full time and pays her own upkeep.

As has been pointed out above, we have invested in these spare parts and we do need to pay for storing them and for administering them. We also manufacture new spare parts, but in very small quantities. Unfortunately, a very small minority of our customers simply have no understanding of production costs of small quantities.... comparing prices of consumer electronics manufactured in quantities of tens of thousands in China to our bespoke hand made parts in England!

I found your comment, Michael Woodhouse, rather unnecessary! I should have ignored it, however, my reply was intended to laugh it off!

Here's looking forward to a 'reasonably' prosperous New Year looking after ALL our customers!!!

Thank you!!!

Have to say that I feel to have had very good service from Stowe/Tinsley this summer. One happy customer.

Agreed, not cheap,(thats what boat jumbles are for, and you go every weekend until you get that cheap spare..)

if you want to go that route. Stowe will sort it with 'one stop shopping'.

Hope the OP gets many miles out of his new kit.

Michael Woodhouse, you make Stowe/Tinsley look brilliant, with your vindictive attitude by putting your unreasonable little Gripe on this forum. Even though I'm from the other side of the world, I now even feel like I want to deal with Stowes. "They" sound like the people I would like to deal with.
