Recently I have acquired a smartphone & tablet both equipped with GPS so wonder if anyone has any favourite or useful Android apps they would care to share. I have read the recent thread on anchor watch alarms so have 5 to try out ! Not much interest to me as I normally wake if there is a change in conditions but swmbo may like to have an alarm set as she is more concerned about us dragging than I am !

Realise that most of these apps are fairly pointless but the forecast for next week is fairly windless where we are going so it might be fun to have something to mess around with as we drift around :)

+1 on the Kindle app - an absolute joy - you need never be away from a book... and with whyspersync it keeps all your Kindle devices in sync so you never have to find your place when swapping from one to another.. superb

For fun - and less than £5 - try MX Mariner, then spend another £5 for the charts for your region... I got the app and the entire south coast (Admiralty style) for less than £10 total and it's superb....

Oh... and don't forget Candy Crush... hideously addictive...

Depends where you are. If in the Med, get Navionics and download the appropriate charts

DS Barometer is neat if your phone can read pressure - I have Nexus 5 which can

Weather includes mobileGRIB, WeatherBug, PredictWind and WeatherPro. One of them has to have the weather that you want!

If you want to make your phone into an anenometer get Vaavud

GPS test is good

Lots of other non-sailing ones too.................

Boaty.... Rain alarm is great, Marinetraffic just had a very good update, Absolute tides, smart AIS - bit clunky and only works online but let's you view Active Captain data, crowd sourcing sort of almanac big in the states and catching up fast over here.

Not so boaty... Astro file manager, drop box (if you mark a file as favorite it will keep a copy on your machine for offline use), Ebookdroid pdf reader(save all your manuals in drop box as favorites plus sun almanac here http://www.backbearing.com/almanac.html and here http://navsoft.com/downloads.html)
Easymoney for accounts, And Maybe have a look at myscript calculator and smart ruler......

Enjoy :)
