Any \"Lloyd\'s Register of Yahcts\" Detectives out there?

Hello all. In April this year I bought 'Tafna', a Miller Fifer 33 from 1960. I have finally bought my own copy of Lloyd's Register of Yachts (1973 vintage) in an attempt to work out all her previous owners. I have (somewhat oddly) met just about everyone from 1973 onwards, but all I have for 1973 and earlier is this entry in the Register:

Y111435/MDOW/306797 TAFNA (ex Elsandra) ScKch
Lt. Col C.P. Rigby, T.D., J.P
Port of Registry - Whitby
Home Port - S. Ferriby

If anyone has one or more Registers between 1960 and 1973 I would be really grateful if you could give me any more information on her ownership - clearly her name was changed from Elsandra to Tafna at some point.

Thanks - any help much appreciated.

Just had a quick look.....

Nothing in the 61', 64', 66', (I don't have 67')

1968 has her owned, and called Tafna, by Mr D W Lowes, at Whiby, and the same entry in 1969.

I don't have any more before 73'.

Interesting the name "Elsandra" has two dots/cicrles above the "E".

From the paperwork issued by The marina at South Ferriby I Quote "Opened in 1967 by Clapson & Sons (Shipbuilders) Ltd , a family business established in 1888 at Barton on Humber, we have continued to improve etc."

I only went into this marina once in 2001 and stayed a week but I understand it is still owned and run by the Clapson fanily. I found the owners very helpfull. It is only a fairly small setup with perhaps 50 boats moored or on hard standing. I reckon the bloke and wife I spoke to might have been about in 1967.

It might be worth you giving them a ring and asking them do they know of the boat, or have any record of her. Their phone number is 01652 635620, called Ferriby Marina.

Thanks Ian - that's great. I couldn't work out how to display the 2 dots above the 'E' so gave up! I'm going to contact the pepole who seem to have some kind of interest in the old James Miller yard - to see whether they might have any records.

If you have any luck with the descendants of the Miller yard - could you post here?

I tried a few years ago - before the last incarnation of Millers went bust - to see if they would sell me copies of plans for my parents yacht. Didn't get a reply.

I did manage to track sail plan and hull plans from Greenwich Museum though.

Sure - I will do. I need to wait for a quiet patch at work & I'll get phoning!
