I am having problems with the guages on my main panel. Both the voltmeter and oil pressure guage have fallen below the panel and I am unable to refix them. It is a Volvo supplied installation. Can anyone explain how the guage with the two metal struts attach to the underside of the panel to hold everything in place. Any help would be much appreciated.

Depends on your panel, is the substrate aluminium? Some manufacturers use weld screws which are spot welded to the underside of the panel, then they use round plastic nuts to tighten againt the bead on the guage to hold it against the inside of the panel. Its a dreadful design and if the screws break off, which they do easily, its always a bodge job to fix it. Options are, try and epoxy the pin back onto the panel or use a silicon adhesive sealent to hold the guage in. Why they designed guages without a small shoulder to sit against the external face of the panel is beyond me.

Yours may be different to this of course

Mine have twist off black rims (volvo) on the front. They seem quite weak and the plastic has broken on some of them, they then fall behind the panel.

My fix was to araldite the front rings on to the guage and then fit them back with the metal struts behind.

Be careful as there is a raised bit on the ring that locates in the panel to stop them from turning....
