hi every one
im not sure if im posting in the right place but i saw small boat and low budget so it sounded right up my street
me and my friend are total idiots were already well aware of this fact, having done an RYA 1 & 2 sailing course we went halfs on a boat a topper buzz (reasonable step in the progression of our sailing career)
so what next... lets sail to France... stupid idea... really really stupid
but we had a look in to it and found it has been done before so there's no reason why we shouldn't give it a shot. so we contacted the R.N.L.I. (very impressed with the services they offer top notch highly professional a great organisation) our sea safety advisor made a number of recommendations such as what courses we should do, what equipment we should get and how to gain experience.
so now we are both taking an RYA day skipper course and on the look out for vhf radio courses. he also recommended that we advertise ourselves as a crew for a larger boat for a trip accross the channel...so here it is:
could we please help sail someone's boat across the English channel
were both 22 and studying electrical electronic engineering
i`m a multi-skilled maintenance engineer and can fix or bodge most things and my friend is pretty well an expert with car electronics (more or less the same as boat electronics i imagine) were also both first aid trained.
if no one can help us out with crewing a boat to france we could still do with some advice.
were 6kg over our boats maximum weight as it is and we have to push further over the limit with safety kit so were looking at taking very small summer sleeping bags, a knife, a flint and steel and a basic fishing kit... maybe dry clothes as well if the boat doesn't sink under the weight. cant really get much more low budget and self sufficient than that
if theres any one out there prepared to take us under there wing fantastic if not we need all the advice and sujestions we can get
thanks in advance
mike
