Just been reading an article on electric propulsion for yachts and other forms of propulsion for ships. I came across this comment which I feel is a massive over statement. (Iron Topsail (sail-world.com))
"the number of Euro-ports most obviously, that have banned the iron topsail in all her forms. " The iron topsail refers to traditional oil based fuelled marine engines.

Anyone know where oil based marine engines have been banned from any harbour.

Some inland lakes, rivers and canals have banned all but electric power.

Harbour Authorities get revenue from ships and boats using their harbours.

Until electric/zero emmission power is in a big majority I cant see much changing. They need the money.

I suppose it's only a matter of time before this becomes widespread.

Those who cruise sailing yachts and who cannot afford, or don't want, an electric motor drive will have to learn traditional, pre-engine, skills: manouvering under sail, skulling, drudging, et al.

I quite look forward to admiring skilled boat handling and ingenuity again. (Should mean increased business for fender manufacturers too :ROFLMAO: )
