I have an 11 year old HR with teak interior joinery I want to match up some of the mat varnish which was factory applied in 1997. I spoke with HR and they said they buy it in drums and can't recommend a similar product, can anyone help.

Try Morrell and Co. Their telephone number is, or was, 0845 450 9070 otherwise try Google for latest number.

They can supply the two-part laquer that Westerly, Moody (I believe) and other boat buidlers used.

There is a large range of 'final' finish varying from matt to high gloss. The one Westerly used has the reference numbers:

Lacquer 5103 450 (two pack lacquer)

Thinners 5007 450

Mix is NINE of lacquer to ONE of hardener (adjust as necessary for time/flow characteristics)

This reference above is for a semi-matt which provides excellent wear and is incredibly easy to apply. FAR simpler to use than any varnish I've ever used. The thinners is necessary to clean tools/brushes, for thinning (if spraying for example) and to wipe down the work before appying the lacquer.

The above reference numbers were those when I last bought some about four years ago. The minimum quantity is 5 litres each (lacquer and thinner) and the hardener comes in a separate plastic bottle.

Whilst this seems a lot, it will last, if stored in a cool place, virtually indefinitely. For example, the lacquer I bought last is still perfectly usable - I just used it - so the overall cost is MUCH cheaper than varnish in the end.

Well worth a try.

Are you sure the interior is teak? Normally HR uses mahogany for interiors.
I've build my own instrument console in our HR and used Epifanes (www.epifanes.com) gloss for the first 4 layers and a final layer matte. This looks very similar to the rest of the interior.

Hope this helps.
