Any Canaries experience?

Las Palmas is loads cheaper than Calero, lots to do on Gran canaria, and it's cheaper to pay the ARC fees plus LP marina fees than it is to pay Calero/Rubicon. But you can't get in unless in the ARC, which leaves in late November. Enter for the ARC with no intention of going, pay the money, arrive Las Palmas, leave boat, then perhaps kill off some close relation or yourself whilst away from the boat, get a refund, and fly in after they've gone - to the empiest big marina you ever did see...

Yeah, done that a few times. Its often a beat but some good pit stops in Morocco if you aren't fussy.

Done it most times of year too, as always just keep an eye open on passageweather for a suitable ride. Its fairly straitforward with the chance to go well offshore if the weather does turn.

Downside along the coast are the loadsa small fishing boats and a vast amount of poorly marked pots. Wouldn't enter a harbour at night.

Happy to answer any questions!

Hi I did pay my fees and returned to mainland spain where I kept in constant contact with RAPHAEL and EDUARDO who assured me everything was fine when I telephoned to say I was coming to pick FATHOM up they told me the police (guardia civil) had taken my yacht which I found very strange. So I phoned the relevant authority's and made my enquiries to which they new nothing I spoke with EDUARDO at the time marina management and told him that the police knew nothing about this he then told me that someone had else had taken the yacht 6 months ago.I then got lawyer and started my own research on facebook and google earth and found evidence that my yacht was being used at a regatta in san miguel marina organized by the manegment.my lawyer phoned eduardo about this to which he replied the yacht FATHOM was not there my lawyer instructed guardia civil to go and check if FATHOM was still there and it was name changed (DEXTER) hull painted the only reason he found it was through the EPIRB. The management of marina san miguel were told the yacht was not to be moved as it was now under investigation. It went missing my life has been turned upside down all I want to do is warn other people of the dangers out there especially at MARINA SAN MIGUEL TENERIFE CANARY ISLANDS

We spent 12 months in Las Palmas, it was fine, very safe, good marina staff, and fantastic prices with easy air access; what more could you want? On the subject of the ARC, we moved down to anchor in La Gomera for a few weeks and it was great fun, after went up to Marina Atlantico in Teneriffe for 10 days and had a great time there as well. We moved back on to our old berth the day the ARC left, again no problem. The secret is to re-book your berth for the night the ARC leave, and tell the marina you will take it as soon as it is empty - and pay your months fees the day before, otherwise you're in for a long wait to book back in.

Anne (the author) has done the trip many times.

Hi
I am sure Annie book is very good and in time if we decide to do the trip I would buy it or one of the other pilot books but for now what I am looking for is info from people who have done the trip , one problem with Pilot books is you can't ask them question , also I not sure when Annie book was written but info moves on a lot quick now then it did years ago especially when it comes to places like morocco.

totally agree steer well clear of marina san miguel they sold my yacht without telling me lied to my lawyer.LIARS AND THIEVES.moor at own peril.

not that stupid as they still have my yacht.what do you mean by goats and bridge.and plus when the owners of the marina are involved it makes it a little bit easier.

>has anyone had any experience in returning back from the Canaries to the Med

It's normally upwind upcurrent, if you can get a wind angle to Madeira then you should get a wind angle to the Med.

when my lawyer was lied too, Hi I did pay my fees and returned to mainland spain where I kept in constant contact with RAPHAEL and EDUARDO who assured me everything was fine when I telephoned to say I was coming to pick FATHOM up they told me the police (guardia civil) had taken my yacht which I found very strange. Terry Barry, I would give up it I were you. You have lost your yacht FATHOM which I can appreciate is very sad but had you taken a bit more time and effort and paid all the outstanding fees on time, you would not be in the situation you now find yourself in.

The yacht has been sold by the marina with full legal title to a third party and you do not have a leg to stand on.

I am sorry, but these are the facts.

I have spent enough time on this little problem, I traced the yacht for you, I traced where it has been over the past couple of years, its current location, I even traced the new owner and various other bits and pieces and feel that you have been a little disingenuous with your comments and remarks both to me and others.

You now need to leave it alone and lick your wounds and mark the experience down to something you have learnt (the hard way)?

I wish you well.

I see FATHOM40's claims have led to his thread on San Miguel marina being closed by the moderators. Something to do with Libel.
