Could you recommend a river cruiser with modern looks and style without too much wood. Been again to the marina and looked at a few boats but they all look tired and dated. I will have 20k to spend. A GOOD LOOKING BOAT:cool:

FOR WEEKENDS AWAY WITH THE GIRLFRIEND

Beauty is very much in the eye of the beholder, but if you are looking to use the boat on the inland waterways you should really look for an inland boat, the Fletcher that you posted about is about as wrong as you can get for the canals. Sheerline make some good inland cruisers with modern looks likewise the modern vikings; twenty grand is actually quite a healthy budget for a first river boat.

Spend half that and get a decent older viking and see how you enjoy it, you may find that you want to upgrade for a sea-going adrenaline machine like the Fletcher.

You need to budget for maintenance and storage as well, wherever you end up messing around on the water. Lots of fun to be had though (c:

Do you wan't a vessel that has character without too much fettling
That would be totally happy inland and at sea
With min of 4 comfortable berths and all mod cons
Which uses 3.5 galls an hour at 12/14 kts of red diesel
I might just know where 1 is at about your budgett!

This won't be hard, but you are probably going to have to settle for petrol and poor low speed handling with outdrives, but neither really a big problem on the river, anything goes as any boat is a compromise.

For 20k look at boats with an asking price of 25K and haggle, modern examples, are Sealine S24, 270, 255, Searay 240, 270, Rinkers, Glastrons. Older quality stuff like a Fairline Carrera 24, Princess 266, Fairline Sunfury 26 all can be had for 20K.

Don't get too hung up age go on condition, boats are not like cars.

You will be told all these boats are unsuitable for the river, well yes they are but they are still perfectly usable if you know how to handle them, and they look much better than a tired old Seamaster or Birchwood etc..

Fuel consumption isn't really an issue either on the river, if you stick to the speed limit there isn't a boat out there that will use more than a gallon an hour. Petrol is pain to get, but at 1gph you won't be filling up that often anyway, and a petrol boat is much quieter and smoke free as well.

Called Fletchers the boat builders today

called Fletchers today to ask if they build sports cruisers for canals / rivers...I did not give any of my own input on the phone but wanted to see what they would say. I thought he was going to tell me to buy a inland cruiser...I know sales people will tell you what you want to hear...but not in this case. He recommended the fletcher 19 GTS 1.7 LTR that this was built for all aspects of boating... ski, boarding, speed and cruising... sea/rivers and canals. I thought sales person here...but then he gave me a customers phone number for me to ring...She is in her late fifties and told me she uses the boat for the sea, rivers and canals around Birmingham trim drive up with no problems. This is great information thanx to you all Daz

Hi Geoff. One sold on ebay two days ago for 16k. the same boat a Fletcher 19gts 2007. I think Ebay is a good place to buy. Thanx Daz

Why not go and wave 16K cash at the one in Geoffs link, its only an asking price you know, seems to be what they are actualy selling for doesn't it:D

I am selling the one in the first link and the one in the second is the same boat, just listed with Ancasta, however she's lying with us at Parkstone now.

You could try an offer, but knowing how stunningly kept the boat is I would be very surprised if the owner accepted one that low.
We are obliged to put all offers through and if nothing more, it would certainly get a dialect going.

She is immaculate though and well worth a look.
