hi all. my kad 32 is due for an antifreeze change, so, i thought i,d just ask, is there any bennefit in filling the system with "neat" or undiluted new antifreeze?? other than the cost.

I use neat anti-freeze (the green stuff) but mix it 50 50 with distilled water.

Unless you're in the North Pole, this will be fine for your needs

I think that neat antifreeze will boil at a much lower temp than water / antifreeze mix.

I wouldnt just it neat.

No, no benefit at all

Use at the recommended concentration

Neat ethylene glycol actually freezes at a higher temperature than the normally recommended mixture ( 50% ?) so will give poorer frost protection ( although I'd guess that it probably does not expand on freezing as water does)

There is some merit in buying the pre-diluted type if you keep the boat in an area where the tap water is hard.
Otherwise in a hard water area VP recommend distilled, deionised or demineralised water for dilution.

Antifreeze solutions over the recommended concentration will also attack and soften flexible vane water pump impellers.

The specific heat capacity of neat ethylene glycol is is also significantly lower than that of a 50% solution. It is therefore a less effective heat transfer medium.
Futher more the viscosity is much greater so it will be less effectively circulated

I'm sure we all know here, but for anyone that doesn't, DON'T USE TAPWATER! Distilled water is cheap, and from what I know, the stuff that comes out of your de-humidifier is de-ionised and usable for this purpose.

I heard people harping on about Volvo coolant, but i've always used the green stuff from any truck centre and have never had any problems

Just another point. there are basically two types of antifreeze.

One contains a conventional low silicate corrosion inhibitor package. The inhibitor in the other is what is called "Organic Acid Technology" or OAT.

The latter is suitable for more modern engines while the former is suitable for older engines.
I do not know into which group the KAD32 will fall therefore follow the advice in the operators manual in choosing antifreeze type.

The two types must not be mixed although a universal top up antifreeze is avaialable

well people, WHAT CAN I SAY ??!!!!! thanks for all the info !!!!!......out of ALL that info, the ONLY thing i new for sure was that you had to mix it with distilled water !!! THANKS AGAIN GUYS !!!!!!..................MESSAGE RECEIVED AND UNDERSTOOD !!!!!!!!!...................... 50/50 it is then !!

Volvo sell it in two forms. Neat for dilution "at home" or ready mixed. Obviously the ready mixed means you don't have to bother getting do-ionised water but I guess probably works out a little dearer to pay for the convenience. The last lot I bought was genuine Volvo ready mixed for £11.33 list price for 5 litres.

hi all..... bought 10ltrs of volvo truck (we use tankers full of the stuff) antifreeze ready to do the job on the bankholl weekend and have been reading all the blurb on the tub, BUT, can someone explain how the spec discription breaks down into english...this is as printed on the tub ....SPECIFICATION, WSS-M97B44-D/E ......... thanks in advance guys..
