Hi all. need a bit of advice, as a first timer.

I have just purchased a 1975 Janeaux 'Love Love' 6.2 metre Yacht. It is in cracking condition & only needs antifouling prior to putting into the water in readiness for my lessons!
I was going to antifoul it & wait for the yard to be available to re-launch it. However, I have been advised todat that once antifoul is applied the boat needs to be put into the water within 24 hours? Sounds a bit strange to me but can anyone advise if this is the case or not please.
Thanks in anticipation.
kind regards

The actual amount of time is very dependent on the type of antifouling. with some, you have up to a month, others are less forgiving. Look on the tin!

Teamac antifouling (eroding) Slipping/immersion time min 12 hours max 2 weeks.
I like this one and reckon it is better than Micron.

The latest Micron Extra - Out of the water, Micron Extra will not become oxidised or break down, which means your boat can be hauled for up to one year without the need for repainting.

It is true that antifouling has a limited air time but 24hrs sound somewhat suspect - I don't know of any brands with a 24hr air time limit

The active ingredient is cuprous oxide in many AFs (or cuprous thiocyanate in light colours) I suspect it oxidises to cupric oxide which is presumably not an effective AF.

Or that could be a load of spheroids.

Thanks to all.

I have purchased the paint, but it is in the yacht, some 35 miles away at present. Did'nt see any restrictions on it but will check again.
