Antifouling

Ian many thanks for the info, we are up in Phase 3 in about 2.5m of water and we have this "worm" on the prop and the bottom of the keel. The guys in the boatyard said that you can get some sort of antifouling that is applied hot and is specifically developed for props and shafts. They also told me to ask them to hold the boat in the slings so I can antifoul the bottom of the keel before they drop it back in the water. So hopefully that will sort out the "worm". Can someone please tell me what its correct diabolical name is?

So, if I hang another anode over the side with a cable running from the anode to the engine block would that do the trick? The guys in the yard told me that you know if your anode is working because "worm" doesn't grow on it.

Some marinas can have high anode wear for all sorts of reasons. Portishead used to be used to load coal, I have heard it said that the anode wear is high if you are near an area where there is a lot of coal on the bottom. I suspect Swansea could be the same. Welsh coal and all that.

Coal....that's an interesting thought.....certainly would expect Swansea Marina to have a lot of coal lying around from when it was the docks. I can't think how it would have an effect on anodes but.........I certainly don't know that is doesn't.:)

I would have thought granite would have been the worst as it actually radiates electro-magnetism as well as being conductive so it could well have both capacitance or inductance? Spoke to the same WM did so it must be true.

I swear by UNO just get back to the original thread lol.

I have run international for the last 4 seasons great stuff. But I don't use UNO as only rated to 25 knots and we go faster then that some times. Went Dover white this year... Back to black next year.

Well I didn't realise UNO was only rated to 25knts. I'd better monitor this thread a little more closely then although at the moment I'd be grateful if I could GET my boat to 25knts. My mate the engineer hasn't turned up again. :-( I have bought some fuel additive but haven't put it in yet because I think it likes a refuel to mix it all up.
Anyway, what is the best anti foul that can be applied on top of UNO or do I need to strip it all! I'll listen to the thread with interest......

Radiation from granite is from the natural decay of Uranium which is not
quite the same as the EM radiation from the BBC. Bring your worktop
around to my "Shack" and I'll prove it.

So YOU'RE the one WM has been talking too! Lol. I wasn't referring to EMR from the BBC, it was a joke and was referring to a conversation I had recently with WM. The properties of rocks and impacts of natural radiation etc are a whole new thread. I used to be in the communications industry and still dabble in radio as a hobby. When you say 'shack' sounds as if you do too.
But anyway, about UNO falling off WM at speeds in excess of 32 knots...... Lol.
All the best Doug

Expect gold would also make a difference - but since neither gold nor granite are in the bottom of Portishead or Swansea marinas, probably not too much of an issue ;-)

Somewhere I have read, you can find out what antifouls are compatible to put over or under other antifouls. No idea where though. The only thing I shall be doing for certain is going black next time

I've just noticed that behind the fishing charter boat not far from mine there is a white sheet in the water with loads of different types of what looks like anti foul painted on it. Looks as if someones doing so research themselves!
Gotta go, going to take ages to sift the marina to find this gold you're talking about....
