Some time ago I enquired why some high strength antifoulings e.g. Jotun Nonstop were available still in the EU but no longer legal for sale in the UK. No one answered this but a helpful Forumite (I can't recall which Forum) recommended "Pussers" antifouling from Bogey Knights in Devonport.
I bought 5l of this Antifouling Black LGL but have been unable to discover its specification. I guess it is an erodable product, and it appears to be solvent based, and it contains copper. It is very easy to stir and to apply, and is quick drying. At £20 / 2.5l it seems amazing value.
Because I usually launch early in the season I have customarily found some fouling by the end of the season regardless of the type of product used; and even copper coating only lasted 4 years. The boat is on a swinging mooring on the R.Tamar and is prone to fouling because of the high levels of nutrients in the water owing I believe to agricultural run-off. The fouling is evidently worse on the ebb than the flood.
This year I have antifouled the bottom 1' of the the keels, skeg and rudder; and intend to launch the boat around 12th March. I then hope to come ashore again around 26th April after the peak of the barnacle breeding season, pressure wash and antifoul the rest of the hull and the keels, etc. where exposed.
Observations on this strategy will be welcomed.
