Hi Warrior, we just had our boat craned out for a scrub last Saturday and were pleased to find after the hull
was pressure washed that the antifoul coating was pretty well intact. Rampino has been on her swinging
mooring in Portsmouth Harbour all winter. We used Seajet according to the manufacturers`
recommendations:silver 2-pack primer on bare bits followed by 2 coats of seajet (shogun I think)
cruising type antifoul. I was quitepleased with this as the slime etc came off quite easily and the boat
is now ready for use. The year before we only used one coat and results were not so good. When we
last ordered the Seajet direct they also sent us a video on how to apply it.
Regards,
Phil
Hi Warrior
I have 28 year old 28' RLM cruiser, lifted her out after two years this christmas, use her on the Tyne and offshore.
Most people including me were impressed with condition of antifoul.
I always spend some time (2 hours) with high pressure washer, this removes all paint flake and grim.
Let the boat dry out a couple of weeks, scrap off remaining flake, lightly power sand all over (using mask and googles) and leave again for a week min to dry.
Paint one coat International PRIMA -CON and let dry for couple of weeks
Then one Top coat International Antifoul (type to suite your boat)and let dry for couple of weeks.
Do not paint if cold weather.(-3)
You will note that I do not remove remaining antifoul back to gel coat. more boats are damaged with scrapers then anything else and if the existing antifoul is good leave it on.
PS. I do not work for International paints!
Entirely agree. Seajet Shogan 033 seems to be best value for money right now. Costs £49.99 2.5l but you should be able to get 10% off this with negociation.
