Hi folks, any of you got recommendations for antifouling for a sailing boat on a swinging mooring in
Portsmouth harbour? I have been using Cruiser Uno for several years but last year I used the new EU version
was less than impressed by it. I put 2 good coats on at the start of the season but by July when we were
about to cross the Channel there was a lot of weed growth. We got some off by swimming around with a
scrubbing brush, but I had to dry the boat out in St Malo and pressure wash it before the trip back.

Problem is that all recommendations are always for something which worked (for someone) in the past.

Maybe one day 'they' will be able to predict the next year's fouling, and formulate accordingly :p

.....but then again didn't the flu virus decide to play tricks this year just as everyone was becoming complacent?

I have had fairly good results with Micron, I just get a coating of slime. However, I am in Haslar Marina and I do use the "Boatlift" for a scrub mid season.

If you find out, please tell me! On my drying mooring I've never found anything that works. I'm resigned to scrubbing off 3 times a year. Lying on my back peeling the keel-to-keel barnacles is an overrated experience, but at least I can use the club scrubbing grid, so it's cheap enough!

This year my Coppercoat is being over coated with International Micron Extra.

I've chosen this based upon the dismal performance of my Coppercoat and great performance of International Micron Extra on a boat parked at a neighbouring pontoon here in the brackish bit of Portsmouth Harbour, as you pass the cranes and head towards Fareham.

Will post a review but I don't expect to scrub more than once (if that...)

Me too - I've given up on Uno and gone for Micron Extra 2 this year, based at Wicor Marine Yachthaven. It will interesting to see whether the extra expense is worth it.

Hempel Tiger Extra, it goes long way and it is very effective for the Solent area

... which just proves VicMallows point: I used it for years, and swore by it. A simple scrubbetween tides late season kept things clean. But then something changed, and I might as well have used Homebase cheapo emulsion. I think they had changed the formulation to comply with H&S regs - but it wasnt Tiger Extra any more! Complete waste of time even putting it on nowadays. Trouble is I havent really found anything else that works. Seago High strength keeps it down to two scrubs per season. Anything else needs at least three scrubs. Chichester Harbour, Prinsted Creek where at LW the boat 'floats' in silt.

I bought a Trapper TS240 yesterday from a chap at Dell Quay up at the top of Chichester Harbour and he recommended Seago. I'll give it a go and report back later in the year.

I think Portsmouth, particualrly the upper part of the harbour is very bad for fouling. I used to use Blakes Tiger Extra which seemed to become less effective. A couple of years ago we went to coppercoat which does not seem to work very well in this area either.

I wasn't impressed with the Tiger either last year, and I'm also Chi Harbour based.... loads of growth... it was a hot summer though....

Agreed that Pompey Langstone and Chichester harbours all tend to be really bad for marine growth. I think we're victims of the EU's policy of allowing nothing remotely effective in the paints anymore. The boat I've just bought has minor fouling and slime with the odd barnacle here and there on the keel, but other than that it's not too bad, so as recommended by the previous owner I'll try the strongest Seago this year and see how it goes.
