So, Tinkerbell's going to have to come out and have her bottom scraped and painted.

What's the best deal for anti foul? Is there a decent, local paint that we can use? Or should be get some stuff shipped out from the UK?

International Cruiser Uno is currently £67.95 for a 3 litre tin from Force4. Shipping out to us here is around €1.50 per kilo, so would be around €9 delivery for a couple of tins.

Thoughts?

Preveza Ionion Marine stock plenty of different antifouls, so I guess the same may be true of Gouvia. A Plastimo A/F bought there was possibly the best we have used in the Med, although it was the most expensive. Up to now we have used a variety of A/Fs bought in UK but the 2014 season will see our first venture into the local stuff.

EU 45 http://www.eu45antifoul.com/index.php worked OK for us, not the best but not the worst. The purchase price includes delivery anywhere in Europe.

+1 used their stuff before now. Likely to be the best deal you can find down there.

AF in Corfu.

As there's so many opinions as to what's best to use in Corfu, I've started experimenting with the various anti-fouls available in the area.
So far I AF'd with the cheapest Greek stuff I could find. The boat was in the water for 6 months and came out covered in weed, but very little Barnacles. The Jet wash guy said it was the easiest he's ever seen to wash off. So, maybe a mid-summer scrub with a brush would have sufficed?
Anyway's, next time I'll go for the most expensive Greek stuff (which is still much cheaper than anything 'International') and report back on how that behaves.
The one thing I do know and as I've been advised by most people, is that you should use the darkest version you can find, Black being best for the minimal growth.
Regards.

Not if it will cost me double the price. That's just daft.

I get my International Micron Extra from Boatman's World or Frank Gerrity at Nautilus both in Kondokali main street. Both give me a good discount. This paint offers 24 month protection after two coats but I have now stopped applying two coats and find that since the boat is only in the water for six months a year anyway, this is sufficient and we usually come out clean in November. My neighbour uses Uno and gets very similar results. I made the mistake of using the local light blue stuff a few years back and the boat was fouled within six weeks. Everything stuck to it except the next coat of Micron!. I had to get the hull blasted back to bare glass by Martin Iball. Incidentally, he also applies Coppercoat and I have heard various reports about it and some very good ones too.

We used Micron Extra last time we painted. Sadly, it's not worked particularly well! Three coats of the stuff, and as soon as we stopped for a few weeks, we were covered in growth (though mostly around the rudders and metal parts). We had hoped to not need a haul-out this year, but seeing as we have plenty of growth, and there's some other jobs that need doing, we've decided to haul out and repaint. Previous year we used Cruiser Uno (albeit around the Solent) and it worked a treat, only a minor layer of slime that came off with the wash.

Would you mind saying how much you pay for a tin of Micron Extra? Unfortunately, so far most items where I've asked for prices have ended up being around 50%(if not more) more than UK prices. Seeing as we have relatives who frequently come and go, it seems daft to buy this stuff locally.
Antifouling is, of course, slightly more complicated.

Certainly IS more than UK price but I'll need to dig out the receipts from last year to be exact. Ring Frank Gerraghty (Nautilus) on 0030 2661090940 or Peter Pappageorgio (Boatman's World) on 0030 2661080104 for a quote at this year's prices.

As to your experiences with International, I wonder how much moving about you did and did you apply it yourself?

Pay the delivery fee. I have driven down with a few tins in the van but I'm not going down till Easter at the earliest.

I have heard that you drive this route regularly. I do not need the transport of goods but would you be kind enough to give details of your route to Preveza. In particular which ferry from which port you prefer, and is a commercial van charged more (or less) than a car on toll roads and the ferries?

Be much obliged thanks.
