Antifouling Colour

Boat is being antifouled in a couple of weeks time. In the past I've always gone for white but would be interested in others opinion. Is it solely down to aesthetics or are there other considerations? Boat is a Fairline Targa with a navy hull and silver stripes (decals). Choices are:

Black
Navy
Blue (Royal)
White.

International 350 (eroding) being applied over the existing white hard anti-foul.

What colours do others prefer?
 
I have heard it suggested that one should avoid any colour scheme that could result in your boat being mistaken by a killer whale for a potential sexual partner.
 
Always black for me. I think it looks awesome when it is done and ready to go in...

I actually like the traditional red on my blue boat, although not one of your options. 95% of the other boats in my harbour are blue (must have been a cheap consignment on the island) so mine stands out well. I wouldn’t suggest navy with a navy hull although it looked smart on my last white yacht.

I think it’s really aethetics which is personal.
One would like to paste in the age old forum “ if all other things are equal “ but that phase does t really work with AF .
As you say , your proposed eroding is going on existing hard and it’s X brand In let’s face it a notoriously from a fouling perspective marina .

This year I used the Raffaello eroding on top of a Veneziani soft last year ,previous years it’s been hard .
1st year of soft seemed ok , this year not so good I see as I snorkel about .It was only done 4 /12 ago .

Boat came with black ( on a blue hull ) so not fussed we just carried on .
I have to say at the WL this brand of eroding is bit disappointing to date .Applied in May , it’s seems to have washed off a bit sooner .Ok under just the WL .
Maybe it’s too soft for the speeds we seem to cruise 28/29 knots dunno .

The Sunseeker was initially a hard white from the factory,then the guardian used a blue ,which on a blue hull imho looked crap as said colour is in the eye of the beholder.Both worked the same btw irrc .

There are threads about one colour the dark ones holding more copper etc than the pure white , but Veneziani do a high strengh white for warmer waters and they say due to enhanced copper it’s not pure white ,it’s a bit off white compared to regular white , it costs more of course.
So if you want a white or near enough white with max copper they are out there as well .

It would be unfair to say black has the most copper over white .Which the basis of the black only advocates .

I know JFM has recently posted some mighty impressive pics of the current micron irrc 99 formally 77 soft eroding.
In black .
Rational being you don,t end up with a thick scabby layer as the years roll on using a hard none eroding.

Dock walking they all seem to work colorwise ,but of course I don,t know what’s on .

Black is the most popular on planing boats but that’s just aethetics I think ,not function.

The hull of mine imho is quit scabby / rough .
I have toyed with the idea of a scape back and start again in the attempt to gain a knot or two ,but we are not lacking in performance at the mo so there’s no motivation.

I have black on an all white hull.

I wouldn't choose white because it has a tendency to show the green slime from the inevitable growth more than black.

Logically with white slime or weed would grow slightly faster with reflected sunlight off the white hull rather than black.

Mainly white always shows a slime and mud stain from any growth and muddy waters, black or navy always looks cleaner.

Pete, may I asc why you put new antifoul before winter ?
I alway's put new antifoul right before the start of the new season, and combine that with whatever underwater hull works are necessary

I'd have though that as the black absorbs (and emits) radiated energy better than white growth would be worse on black a/f? Though, as you say, it would show less.

Bart, the outdrives need a service and the existing A/F is no longer doing it stuff. I could wait until the spring but I am quite keen on the VP dealer in Sant Carles doing the service before we relocate the boat to another location (shock horror, we might also use the boat during the winter)!

I did notice a slight increase in slime and filament weed at the waterline but that sloughs off underway pretty quickly with self ablating AF

I can’t for life of me understand why you’re letting them use 350 instead of m99. Just put your foot down and insist on m99. Especially in weedtastic SC.

I thought you'd acknowledged that there was no discernible difference in spec between 350 (that replaced the much loved 77) and 99? Both are abluting. However, I'll have another go at getting a price for 99.

If all goes to plan, we'll be moving the boat from SCM in October.
 
Hard to believe that we're in 2018 and people are talking about 'black' and 'white and 'blue'. How long before Farrow & Ball move in with something a bit more 'de nos jours'?

You might be pushing it to combine your topsides colour with, say, 'Stony Ground' or 'Nancy's Blushes' but I would seriously consider 'Down Pipe' or even 'Plummett'

LOL! My favourite colour is what you get when the white goes slightly green (verdigris).

So Duck Egg would work well for me :).
