I am replacing my seacocks and skin fittings this winter. The skin fittings will be bronze, and I have Coppercoat antifouling. It will be difficult to mix up a really small quantity of Coppercoat just for the skin fittings, so my initial thought is to use Trilux which I use on the sail drive leg. Any other ideas?

You may have seen posts of mine describing using Velox on my prop and P-bracket. Velox needs a primer, for which I have found Hammerite Special Metals to be very effective on copper alloys. I don't know whether Trilux is the same but a primer will always help in providing better adhesion.

We had Ariam professionally coppercoated, expecting them to go over the skin fittings as well (in fact we rushed to fit new skin fittings before the already-scheduled painting, so that they would be done). As far as I'm aware, it's perfectly acceptable to coppercoat skin fittings. So I was a bit surprised afterwards to find that they'd masked them off during the main spray and then applied hard antifoul afterwards. When asked, they couldn't really explain why, just that they always do it like that. Certainly it hasn't been a problem, and after two years the antifoul was still doing its job. Will probably go over them with a top up this winter though, as it must be pretty much at the end of its effectiveness.

Vyv, looking at the MSDS's, within the limits of the information Velox and Trilux appear very similar. Have you tried Trilux and found it definitely not as good?

No, only used Velox. Have seen some poor results with Trilux, which may have nothing whatsoever to do with the paint. We bought our Velox in Greece, where I have not seen Trilux.

OK many thanks for all replies, think will go with Hammerite Special Metals primer then Trilux (latter has always worked well for me on the Saildrive leg).
