I have just finished painting antifoul, I used a red self polishing type that normally gives me 2 to 3 years protection (the boat is used in fresh water) while I was in the boat shop getting some bits and bobs the salesman told me about a type of “epoxy tar” antifoul that would give +/- 5 years of protection and it was about half the price of the regular type I use.
Although it is black, I was interested, has anyone used “epoxy tar” before, or heard anything about it. Any advise would be much appreciated.

I have epoxy tar on my boat. It is not anti-fouling, but a means of protecting the gelcoat from water and (hopefully) delaying the onset of osmosis

Think you might be confused here. There are two products made by International under the VC label:

VC17: Highly-effective, hard, light-weight antifouling with Teflon for use where medium fouling is a problem. Super-smooth, low-friction finish. No sanding required between coats if applied within approx. 40 minutes drying time. Contains no toxic organic solvents. Tin-free. (Not suitable for aluminium). Coverage: 8m²/ltr.

VC Tar2: Tar-free 2-component epoxy primer providing good protection against osmosis for GRP and corrosion protec-tion for all steel and aluminium boats. No sanding between coats. Does not discolour light antifoulings. (This replaced VC Tar)

As you can see, neither of these is really Tar.
