Hi everyone, I have a boat in Chichester Marina which cruises at ca. 22/23 knots but can achieve 30 on a good day. Most manufacturers have a cut off of ca 25 knots for their different antifouling paints. Any advice on the best option- hard or self polishing? Thanks for any help, reards Nick

I do about the same speed Im based next door to you and I use Blakes hard racing ultra.

I was really impressed when the boat came out it was really clean, I had it steam cleaned but I could have got away without it being done

I use the soft antifoul. My driving style is to cruise at about 22 and have the odd blast of 32 knots. The antifoul seems to stay on ok and perform very well. Also it will jet wash off every year unlike the hard stuff which will build up (actually it's the lattice thats left behind after the antifoul has done it's job) and eventually will have to be scraped off (which I understand to be a nasty job)

Hi, you probably need to experiment!

My boat has a theoretical maximum of 35 knots but I can count the number of times that I achieve this speed each season on the fingers of one hand. More normally, a combination of sea state, meanness and a 22 ft boat mean that we proceed at a more gentlemanly 22 - 25 knots. Because of this, I use International Cruiser Uno, which is eroding and which is recommended for boats doing less than 25 knots. The occasional blast at higher speed merely does a bit more eroding, and cleans off the bottom /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif.

MBM did a test of various antifoulings a few years back on their own boat (a Sealine at the time, I think, certainly capable of >25 knots)) and Uno was the winner.

Yes, definitely - EU45 antifoul. http://www.eu45antifoul.com/english/. Its half the price of anything from International and better quality. My boat does 44kts and although I don't travel at this speed, I do cruise at 20-25kts. EU 45 has 45% copper oxide and works really well. I didn't have any weed, slime, barnacles, or tubeworms - in fact, nothing at all. Better still its £47.99 incl P&P for 2.5L.
