After 15 years of various coats of antifoul my hull has the stuff cracked and peeling all over. No matter how much scrapping it is time to do something else.

I am told it has to be blasted off, which sounds aggressive and have found some people who wet blast using pumice. Sounds much more suitable but has anyone got experience of this please?

Then what do you do - I am looking at CopperCoat, but does it really work ?

Any help appreciated

Jon

You can also use paint remover for the old a/f. Messy stuff, and not the nicest thing to do.

Coppercoat has received some really good reports on this forum, and will last circa 10 years. Worth doing if you know you will keep the boat beyond 3 years. Elessar off this forum applies Coppercoat, and I'm sure if you PM him you will get a sensible reply.

He also removes the old stuff - nicely too - without going so deep that it damages the gelcoat - unlike some others around this area ...

Did this in 2006 and really never looked back.

Had the hull blasted by a professional and did the application ourselves, with a fibreglass specialist supervising.
Really relieved every season when a lift and wash are all that is really needed.
Have even skipped some winter lifts and given the hull a vigorous scrubbing between tides.
3m scouring pads are needed to give it the abrading that works.

Think we may have broken even on the cost.
