eroding types stop working when it's all worn away

hard types when the biocide has all dissolved

cheap types may stop working sooner if the bugs settle faster than the biocide can kill them. the effect is increased by pollution and warmer water.

Is it possible that the "more popular" boats have anti-fouling which now doesn't work?

Regards, Jeff.

Observations from West Mersea suggest that there is a vast difference within a radius of 200 yds in some cases. We were lifted and power washed yesterday, and I was delighted to see that the cheapo XM 4000 had only a slight green slime on it. Others with International and Seajet were worse. There are a lot of Seajet users, and they are the ones reporting variation

We had a similar problem.

Some antifouling is self polishing - the boat needs to be taken for a spin (for a couple of hours worked) and the growth was removed
