Hi, I’m getting my boats hull blasted to remove the antifouling and I would like to protect the waterline edge as best as possible. The guy doing the removal uses a glass bead and can get a nice smooth finish.
I would like to mask the waterline to ensure there is no over spray on the blaster. I think masking take would only last seconds and wouldn’t work at all. I know that duct tape is likely to leave a residue but I’m sure I could remove it with some alcohol.
Has anyone done this and had success?

Don't know if this is sensible or would work, but you could try by first putting on a layer of masking tape then duct tape on top, this would give you an easily removable compound which would not leave any residue but have a surface potentially strong enough to give the protection you want.

Thanks folks, I’m not sure if the guy doing it usually does a fine edge along the waterline. I think he usually does this work on older boats with heavy osmosis.
I’ll try the duct tape over masking tape, that sounds like a good option.
