I need to decide on which antifoul to use, something I've not had to do before. The boat was freshly done when I bought her October 07 but I'm not sure what was used. There is weed growth, although not excessive.

As I understand A/F is influenced by the location I'd like to hear what people based in Poole (Cobbs Quay) are using and whether 2 years between a re-paint is realistic.

International seems very expensive so am keen to consider other makes e.g. Jotun if anyone has experience.

Thanks
Adam

You will probably only get 6 months out of an antifoul which ever make you buy, and even then a mid summer scrub is not unheard of. Pop in to see Geoff or Dave in CQ chandlers they will be able to give you some sound advice.

Yes, we're based in CQ. Moreover our boat is out of the water at the moment. We A/F'd last year - 2007, and she is being done again now - or this coming week actually. We are using Blakes 'Tiger', but were I you I'd go to the Chandlery at CQ and ask for advice. We found Dave (the fellow with the beard) very helpful. Anti/foul is expensive BTW - ours about £80

Perhaps more important than paint though, in my view, would be anodes. These are likely to require replacing. CQ is a very convenient place to get the boat out of the water, and do all this.

Message me should you need more advice.

Blakes Tiger is very popular in Poole. I used it for years, but 3 years ago changed to XM at half the price. To be honest can't tell the difference.

Unlikely you will get 2 years with anything - and anyway in the whole scheme of things AF is cheap even if it is a pain to apply.

We are next to CQ at Davis's For the last 4 years we have used International Paints Cruiser Uno. This has been pretty good for us especially as we apply it ourselves and it only takes one coat. It erodes so you don't get a build up of layers of hard antifoul. Downside is it is not suitable for over 25 knots, and you have to apply it every season. OK for us as crusing is usually 22-24 knots . Just bought 3 litres (enough for our 29 footer at £59.31).
Have to say that there was very little build up of muck this year probably due to the lack of sunshine.

i use shogun which goes on very thin does work well and last all season no problem
but might try the blakes
you will need to prime to make sure it adheres to whatever there is on it now

When I bought my boat in Apr last year (a Sealine S38), she had been freshly painted with International Interspeed Ultra. She went into the water in Apr, was lifted at the end of Jul to replace the stern drive colar anodes and was hosed off as part of the deal (Sealift at Cowes) and I finally took her out of the water on 17 Dec. She is berthed on the Hamble which is widely know as one of the "scummiest" rivers and although there was some "scumming" around the waterline, this was easily cleaned by either taking her for a run and/or when she was hosed down on her final lift out.

In all, I think the antifoul used has really stood up well, to the extent that I'm not sure if I need to re-do her. Sure there are some "patches" that have worn off, but nothing major. Will probably get her done, as this will make her look a bit nicer - especially as she is up for sale (genuine reason for sale!!) - but in all, not having much experience of other anti-fouls, for a speedboat I wouldn't hesitate to reccomend International Interspeed Ultra.

Hope this helps.
