What's the consensus, needed or not ?

Got the boat out on her trailer at the moment for a good clean / service and to fix the electrics after the mink set up camp onboard. Spent the day yesterday with a pressure washer and scrubbing the undersides, which to be fair wasn't wholly successful and ultimately I guess the antifoul needs to be redone. It's still intact, if a bit grubby though.

I'm after opinions really on how bad it'll be if we drop her back in until the late autumn before having the underside stripped & re-fouled. Only reason for not wanting to do it now being cost, everything's landed at the same time, insurance, mooring, service plus the discovery yesterday of the electrical faults, meaning a big visit from the sparky is necessary before she goes back in and I can't see it being cheap /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif Pulling her out isn't an issue though as we've got the trailer.

This being our first year as boatowners I'm not entirely sure about the importance of antifoul in the Bay, given that after a year in the water she wasn't all that bad, just a good layer of green slime which, if we'd used her more over the last few months I'm guessing wouldn't have been there. I'd imagined huge growth it has to be said.

All opinions welcomed

Cheers

Mike

If the old surface is not too bad I would put a coat of antifoul yourself.

I use Cruiser Uno in the bay and seems to work fine for me. If the surface is a bit flaky give it a bit of a sand down (wet) and use some primer first.

It is suprising what primer and antifoul will cover and better that than nothing as you will find last years antifoul will have lost it's effectiveness

It's not flakey at all from what we can see, just a bit grubby. As for a recoat, I can only get to about 75% of the hull with her being on a trailer, hence the idea of leaving it a few months and then GAMI to strip the whole lot off and redo it. I've no idea when it was last completely redone and there's evidence of at least 3 different colours coming though, so I'd quite like to take it back to bare GRP to be sure everything's tickety boo.

Just not right now as my pockets are bit empty with everything else she needs /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Hello mike. The fouiling in the Bay seems to be mostly just slime which is worse close to the waterline.A "for now" job could be to wash off what you can and just reantifoul a strip around the waterline a foot or so wide.

Hi Graham. Yeah, waterline is particularly green but a good polish should shift that off. Think I'll just go for touching up the few bare patches of antifoul and with a a repainted strip round the waterline as you suggest, then drop her back in. Engine service is booked for Wednesday so fingers crossed all is well in that department, then it's get the electrics sorted out, my chartplotter fitted and she's ready for the next few months of superb sunny weather. Well, I can but hope the weather's going to be sunny !!

I bought one in the US on my last trip there, making the most of the exchange rate. It's a Lowrance LMS 525C, worked out almost half the price of over here so it was a no brainer really. All I need to get hold of now is a RAM mount to assist in locating it in a better place on the dash so as not to cover some of the engine guages.

Not looking forward to drilling a load of holes below the waterline though to mount the speed sensor and transducer...

My first handheld GPS was a lowrance. Looks very bulky and outdated now, but still works. I have a Garmin combined chartplotter and sounder. It really is a cracker, although the charts are a few quid.
