Hi guys, I'm going to be sticking my, normally trailered, 20 footer into a Marina in Loch Lomond (fresh water), and I'm trying to figure out if I need to anti-foul her. I'd prefer not to, and to just scrub her down every couple of months.

Does that sound like a stupid plan or a good one?

Cheers
Kenny.

What do other boats on the Loch do?

With the temperatures down south, you'd have an artificial reef within weeks, and once attached, v.difficult to remove.

You might have more time in colder water.

I kept my boat on the freshwater part of the Thames with no antifoul for 2 years. Once a year it was lifted out and powerwashed, and a quick wipe over, not even a scrub, got rid of the thin layer of green. Not sure if Loch Lomond will be similar, though as S28 says, ask around what local boat owners do, and see if any don't bother with antifoul. AlistairR should be able to assist, as he kept his boat there.

We've always antifouled our boats on LL but I don't think there is any deperate need for it. You will get a layer of slime fairly quickly but as has been said it will scrub off very easily.

What marina will you be keeping the boat in?

Honeybee has been in for about 1 year now in Cameron House, no anti foul and all the crap will get washed of no probs next week when she come out to get her annual clean & polish from Norman the boat cleaning guy.

Hi Chris

I've got a berth now also at Cameron House and hope to have it in the water next weekend.

Q. How choppy does it get there on the pontoons during an easterly blow? My berth is further out than yours and I'm wondering if I should/need to move it closer to the clubhouse/restaurant?

Silver Boy, as you can see above I'm going to be at Cameron House this year. What about you?

Kenny

Kenny,

It can getter pretty choppy in the marina at times when the water is coming over the breakwater, apart from that it is very good (to my knowledge the loch has not risen that high this year),
