With flights booked and plans in place for a boys sea fishing trip the only gap in the plan is that we have no experience and no contacts.

Either book a dedicated sport fishing boat for the day or book someone with local knowledge and a load of rods?

If the former does anyone know of any basic fishing boats for charter? Quick internet trawl has not really come up with much, or the ones that have popped up have not replied to emails.

Monday Oct 14th is the date.

Any leads, suggestions, ideas are appreciated

Slightly different to your question: go fishing in Saint Cassien lake, 30 mins north west Antibes. Giant catfish to catch, record 230 kg, people come from all over the world to try their luck.

Take autoroute west to les adrets, 30 mins you're there! You can rent boats and tackle at the lake. Lots to see in the area.

Have you called/visited the Guigo shop MRC? They must know what's what in there. www.guigomarine.com

On Av Verdun. If you exit the port not on the capitainerie quay but thru the entrance near quai 2 or 3, and take the coast road in the airport direction, Guigo is about the 5th shop on your left. Well before Transat restaurant. About 100m as the crow flies from the port entrance barriers

There's a sea fishing shop called Guigo just up from the Transat. I went in a few years ago and they spoke good English and were very helpful, though staff could have changed of course. It may be worth asking them about the best options.

There are a couple of charter fishing boats around. There is one in Antibes in Vieux Port .. just as you go around the bend before the beach if I remember correctly. Also seems to do whale watching/dolphin watching.

I know nothing about it but allegedly the closest the Tuna get to Antibes is late April/ May (hence the mini fleets a mile or so offshore) but ask in Guigo they do seem very helpful.

googleing now...

Have it in my mind to catch a Tuna and have sashimi on the deck...

If you were a bit nearer to me at Empuriabrava, Spain I would take you and your lads out. As for catching tuna, well in Spain the season runs from June to October. Since August you are not allowed to land tuna. Don't know if its the same in France. Tight lines!

Nip west down the A8 -just past Cannes_-J41 "Mandelieu air port" sign -come off -head on the duel carriageway to Mandelieu -on the R you will see a Cabesta shop .(Out of town shopping area )and Decatholon Oppersite also sells kit
This is a big boys toys shop fishing, diving, sailing ,boaty stuff .+ fishing DVD,s
Buy some kit@ supermarche prices ( not Guigo prices ) -staff are helpful
Tuna -check the open season ( they keep messing about with it -date/size matrix ).usually displayed @ Peche club notice board .
Rule of thumb

6 miles out
6 knots <
6 hours
If you catch a monster put it back -using your boat hook a rope place a noose round the tail to drag it onto the bathing platform -one or two lads wrestle it flat on the deck -( it should be knackered ) another with leather gardening gloves remove the hook from its liip .
Thing is what goes off 6 M out at sea -stays at sea ,i would,nt come back to PV with a "big un " on the bathing platform
