This is a link to a series of anti-fouling tests done by MBY in 2016. The paint which came out on top was Seajet 038 Taisho which at the time was said to be a prototype awaiting registration. I did a search online and I can't seem to find this paint on sale in the UK or Ireland. Do I take it from that it has not been approved or has it been superseded by another Seajet offering? The 038 is available and on sale online in both Greece and Turkey but at €250+ for 5 liters it's not cheap. Would anyone know anything about this paint or it's current availability?

I've tried to buy it (or get it delivered to) the UK, and had no luck. I wrote to their head office who told me what you surmised - not approved and no plan to try and overcome that. I've had a half-hearted stab at buying from Greece and Spain but gave up and went with scrubbable instead.

Thanks. I can buy it here in Turkey but as I said it’s relatively expensive @ over €50 per litre and if you believe the spec sheet the coverage rate is only 5 sq mts per lt. Seajet ave another copper based paint 023 which is not available in the U.K. but is being sold by amazon.de. They will definitely deliver to Greece but I think they may deliver to the U.K. as well. It’s around €38 per lt delivered but has a cover rate of 10 sq mts per lt. I may well just try the local Greek stuff Million which was recommended on another thread.

We in Tunisia now , we took sea-jet 038 with us , brought in Malta from deck shop at 20% discount .
Only time is going to tell how well it's going to work .

Around 140 Euro inc vat for 2.5 L less 20%
Although now we in Tunisa , we could had got local stuff a lot stronger then the EU stuff , a lot cheaper .
Thanks. That means the Turkish price is about right taking account of the import costs from the EU. If you don’t mind I’d be very interested to know what kind of coverage you get per sq mt per lt when you get around to painting.

I brought 7.5 lts plus .75 hard A/F for the water line 42 foot boat , I hoping to get two coats , I let you know when we done it in a few days , we only arrive last last night , got hauled out this morning , we been sanding all day , the plain is undercoat the boot line and if all ok give it one coat to morrow , then a second coat on weds and start on the A/F hoping if all well we be back in the water thurs , but who knows , things don't always go to plain .

Thanks again. Best of luck with the work. I hope it all goes to plan.

Hello Sailboatavic and Irish Rover, etc.,

What experience did you end up having with the 038 you bought? I just ordered and am anxious to hear what experience people have had with their 038!

We got a season use out of it just about , it worked fine out here in the Med although it was looking like it's had its day when we hauled out , but we did do 3100 nm that year .
May last better if you do less miles .
Would use it again but we plain to CC this year .

That's great feedback thanks. Did you end up priming transducers and engine drive legs etc. and covering those in 038 as well? In terms of transducers, if you painted those over, did you notice any impact in performance? I have tried various "transducer specific" antifoulings - and none of them seem to work well. The same with regard to drive legs, where International's Prop-O-Drev has been pretty disappointing... Thanks!

PS: What's "CC"?

I never painted the transducer, so can't help there ,I didn't paint the sail drive leg with sea jet but the leg as been epoxy in the pass , CC = copper coating .
