We're currently tinkering about with winter jobs while we're out of the water. A chap came along and asked why we don't antifoul the props - it got me thinking, because I've never seen a painted propeller. Do peeps paint their props and rudders?

Stand by for a barrage of responses, remarks regarding "previous threads/posts" and "oh no, here we go agains" !!

It appears there are numerous products and many, often conflicting, views on the subject.
I gather that it's hardly worth the effort - but as often is the case, "I may be wrong" !!
For what it's worth, I don't paint/AF mine, but it does get a bit of barnaclisation over a nine months in the sea.

Good luck.

Quite normal to AF rudders. Less common to AF props because it is difficult to get the coating to stay on, partly because of the material but mainly because as soon as the prop runs the coating starts wearing off. There are various costings that claim to work but experience of their effectiveness is very mixed.

I give my props a quick spray with Trilux. I don't expect it to stay on once the boat is used in earnest, and it doesn't, but it does at least stop the growth between anti-fouling in March and first use at Easter/Whitsun. It takes minutes, and costs only a few quid. By the time I lift the boat again it has all gone, so no problem with build up.
