Anti fouling not working

Some 6 weeks ago my Targa was launched with a fresh coat or two or ultra 2 into the itchen.

Well it's not working at all....I have a thick build up of slime around the stern that is a right pain.

I also painted the tabs and outdrives with trilux....this is even worse...after 3 weeks they are thick with weed..I clean off all I can see with a mop but it comes back three days later...a black horrible growth.

I was told that the itchen was not bad for fouling but I disagree.

What sort of anti foul and is the boat being used ( i.e. moving at speed).

Slime is kind of normal to a degree, weed - after 3 weeks I would hope not but who knows. The tabs are usually just coated in anti foul ( well mine are). Trilux ( from memory so possibly wrong) is fussy about how it is applied .

Its international ultra 2 and international trilux...boat is used at least every two weeks up to 30 kts.

I'm moored on the Itchen and use Ultra 2. I get a coating of slime over the hull some of which wears off when the boat's used (I cruise about 18 knots) but it never seems to go completely. Like jrudge's comment above, slime seems normal, and I'm not aware of a coating that stops it completely. Trilux I have no experience of.

Trilux I have absolutely no confidence in. Sea squirts seem to love it. I haven't found anything yet which works on outdrives hence me selling and going over to shaft drive. If anyone can recommend what does work let us know on here. Slime seems to grow quickly on the hull but is easier to remove, local boat yards blame a warm winter.

Contrary to normal practise I put on a soft self eroding AF as I am in a tidal estuary with a fast current (up to 7 knts) It has been superb with no weed growth, barnacle infestation or mussel growth. I get some weed on the top of the trim tabs and above the anti cavitation plate of the outdrives with Trilux. But these are clear of the water at speed and to be expected. Below where they would cause drag is spotless. I'd love a perfectly spotless hull and drives but pragmatism tells otherwise. At least I am not getting anything that causes me drag.

The growth is at the surface level or right underneath? it occurs when the sun shines on the water, and loves a nice flat still surface, as transoms generally are, a long stiff brush is the only answer. You do not have to be at rest for long for it to grow. We have always used Jotun sea force/queen, but now it is difficult to get hold of due to some rules re application by "amateurs" more EU nonsense but I could be wrong, even so we scrub off regular. Not seen an anti foul that works 100% all the time, unless you are on the move constantly.

I often wonder what it is they use on those??
