Hi all
just got the boat lifted out today very filthy underneath, the barnacles seemed to congregate more on the bit of the hull where I'd left a gap between the anti foul and stern drive.
Question is can I paint right up the stern drive or was I right to leave a gap and not risk getting any anti foul paint on the stern drive?

And see attached for a strange picture. I guess we were lucky not to get more damage?

Thanks

Nick

All the literature I have seen says you must leave a 3/4" gap between antifoul on the hull and the outdrive.

Coincidentally I have just had mine lifted for a mid season wash off and there was virtually no growth on either the hull (Cruiser Uno) or outdrive (Lanolin). Bit of slime that was all.

All the more impressive as the boat has been sitting unused (awaiting refurbed turbo) since May.

All back operational now thank goodness - of course the weather has turned to rats - my fault I'm afraid.

Is that a mussel? Looks like a big 'un - how long since the boat was lifted?

I was once 'lucky' enough to have a barnacle plant itself immediately beside one of the outdrive seals. Needless to say, as it grew it simply shoved the seal to one side. Cost me a few bob, as I recall, but I don't know if there's much one can do about it - I can't even get in there to apply antifoul, so the risk remains...

That looks like something from Doctor Who - No, from Torchwood - Its horrible.

No you do not have to leave a gap as you can use the copper free A/F paint you used for your legs to paint an inch around the shields on the transom, right up to the AF you use on your hull. So no gap

Thanks for all the answers, much appreciated.
Carlton it was an Eel. Bellows had come away from the leg and he had made his home there. That's what I mean about lucky bot to do more damage....
We have bought anti foul paint for the leg this year. Haven't needed it before, can only think that the lack of use has allowed the little blighters to congregate more this year.

Cheers

Nick
