I have been having a problems in Sof F to get any work done to the hull and now have a dilemma.

I can get it lifted and pressure washed off, change anodes etc and back in on the day or travel down the coast and have it out for 3 days and get the whole thing done properly but then stuck on the boat on the hard.

I always anti foul every year but I did have a discussion about just cleaning it off and then as long as I am moving around over the next couple of months then the fouling should not be too bad?

Anyone done this and the for's and against would be good to consider?
Thanks

If it’s out anyhow + jet washed + fresh anodes ....May as well go the whole hog and let them slap a coat or two of AF on .
Where is it you will stuck for 3 days .

If you leave it for 3 weeks + the stern gear will needs a scrub as per usual anyhow .Your self or a diver at more expense .

Have you thought about a beuchat mini dive kit .I bought one primarily for prop fouling .
Used it once in anger when that black builders band you see round bricks .....ended up round my duoprops on my previous boat in the middle of the bay of Frejus miles from anywhere.I had to remove the rear prop bobbing about to cut it free from in between , then reassemble .....then carry on .With 1000 m under me !

The rest of the time I use it to inspect , clean stern gear after the boats been left a few weeks .
Although this year in the predicament as you - cancelled annual / Corvid issues , I have done my anodes with it and partially the stern gear until paying a diver to do a total pro job + hull blast underwater.

I will be using my mini dive bottle ( 20 mins + @ 2 m ) a few times this season I suspect .
Its possible to plain snorkel it but far easier with a weight belt + bottle on your back .
€5 to refil it .
Gives you independence that’s the main point .

In the past I've had a lift, jet wash, acid on props & rudders & anode change at the beginning of the season and I've been OK until the following year. I tend to cruise quite sedately, so didn't notice any loss of performance. Last year we were unexpectedly on the hard for 4 days during May half term and it was OK - we had a car so just explored by road. I'm not sure I'd want to do that in summer as the AC won't work on the hard.

No aircon and life on the hard for a few days versus a lift wash, annodes and dropped back in. I think you know the obvious answer. The thought of living of trying to live onboard with people working on the hull would drive me mad.

my concern was how quick would it foul up, we are on it for the next 3 weeks and then back to the UK for 2 weeks and then back out again so concern was how much will it foul up over that period with basically no protection.

I have to go down to Golf de lion to do the job properly and yes we could move the car so at least we would not be there when they are working?

Lift & hold. There's plenty of boats in our marina that only get AF every other year... you'll be fine.

Our lift & block off was cancelled in lockdown and so we have just had a lift/pressure wash/hold overnight and cleaned props/shafts , changed anodes and touched up antifoul on P brackets & rudders. Back to 31 knots from 28 . Appreciate we are uk based and fouling may not be as bad but will monitor the fouling & speed loss till the end of season to gauge how important the fresh antifoul might be. Clean props and regular use are key IMHO.

You fuel bill to Gulf d Lion and back to Menton will fund another L+H day job .
But 2 weeks and as I said the sterngear will need a scrub ......somehow ?

You can’t put a value of the independence gained from a bit of dive gear .

I've never felt the need to scrub the stern gear between lift outs. Admittedly it would be nice to have clean stern gear all the time, and some dive gear to clear rope from props in an emergency, but worried about fouling over 2 weeks???

I’m a real newly at this but my boat was lifted in January and washed as part of the survey, I replaced the anodes and cleaned the stern gear in June, the hull is a bit slimy but nothing is stuck to it, so I’m thinking of leaving another lift out & anti foul until next season.

That should be fine in normal circumstances it’s around Easter , early May the annual is done .
So for you no need to consider AF and like me fresh anodes recently .

But I think in a performance orientated set up were you plane a lot clean props are important to keep the loads down and ( sorry guys ) EGTs .
You have the added extra initial drag of spinning up your high pitched arnies , consolation being as you said in another thread it’s relatively easy to snorkel them if you raise them up .Just pootle @ 800 rpm to a safe close anchorage.
